From the SEC network.

There is really no incentive for an AD to break the bank and try and increase revenue by paying coaches exorbitant amounts. AD departments are pretty fat and happy.

Case in point:
LSU- O
Au: keeping Gus
Tenn: keeping butch
A&M: keeping Sumlin

The list goes on

The ADs all know that the check is coming. Just maintain.
8 wins is now acceptable

No incentive to make changes for more.

I dare say if I was a HC in today's SEC, with just nominal success my job security is pretty high.

Spare me the Allevas of the SEC will feel it when I stop showing up. You know and they know it you are not bailing on your team. They also know you are still buying your favorite gear and wrapping it under the tree.

This is only partially true.

I can tell you that I order all my LSU stuff online mainly b/c I can't find anything out here in Vegas. But back in 2011/2012, I could get different styles of hats, shirts, jerseys, etc, that I can't get now.

You will see the Texas fan base rejuvinated over the Herman hire. And there will be a boom in Texas gear sales for at least the next year. A hire like Herman creates excitement from the fans which in return leads to those sales

The sad part is that people still don't realize that 8 win average seasons are mediocre nowadays

6 win is below average

9 wins is slightly above average

5-less, especially in power 5 is evident of a bad program

Louisiana and many other SEC schools don't have much else to compete with.
For many states, Texas and FL aside, the flagship school is the only game in town.

Support WILL ALWAYS be there

The large SEC network payouts just made it that much easier to accept "mediocrity".

Gus has done a good job. Why would we fire him?

Umm, you think that SEC schools get $32.6 million per year, each, from the SEC Network? The one that's Channel 611 on DirecTV?

LOL!

Maybe but winning brings in a whole lot more. I live outside of Philadelphia and I have met three different guys who have a son who is currently attending Alabama. What are the chances of that? All three of them said the exact same thing - the kids want to go watch the school they attend win a national championship while they are in school. Period. They all pay cash for out of state tuition. Alabama has recruiters who come to the high schools up here. Where do you think that money comes from? football. It's insane.

Umm, no. You've doubled down.

The SEC Network payout is 5, 6, 7 million dollars, only PART of that 30-plus million payout.

The Longhorn Network pays out $15 million/year. That is in addition to the $25 million TEXAS gets from ESPN, ABC, FOX, etc etc.

Edit: It's actually about $31 million now (plus the $15 million)

Do the math.

Ha, no. 9 wins is very solid for most teams.

Yeah, the payout to 1 school is $15M. Your conference gets nothing of value from it.

LSU/TAMU/Bama would all get AT LEAST $15M with their own individual networ too.

They would? Why didn't they do it, then? Aggy explored its own network as a member of the Big 12, but the payout from KORN in Hooterville just wasn't worth much, hence latching on to the SEC teat.

Some of you idiots need to retake HS English & learn the definitions of the $2 wordsyou attempt to throw around. "Mediocre" is not above "average".

mediocre Translate Button
[mee-dee-oh-ker]
adjective
1.
of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate:
The car gets only mediocre mileage, but it's fun to drive.
Synonyms: undistinguished, commonplace, pedestrian, everyday; run-of-the-mill.

Because working to improve the conference as a whole was the right move. Hence 9-10 teams in bowl games as opposed to 5 for the Big "12".
Your conference champion hasn't even been in the national championship discussion for good reason, your conference is imploding because of the selfishness of 1 school.

It must suck that such a terrible, shitty conference has many of its members making more money than the SEC, huh?

Edit: And before someone comes back with a completely different scenario to fit their agenda, I am talking about conference payouts and all television money, not other revenue like apparel, etc.

On "9 wins is slightly above average", I wanted to see how it really stood for the P5. Here's what I've come up with this year:

Acc 100 wins, 14 teams, 11 bowls, 7.54 avg wins
Sec 99 wins, 14 teams, 12 bowls, 7.5 avg wins
Big10 96 wins, 14 teams, 10 bowls 7.21 avg wins
pac12 81 wins, 12 teams, 6 bowls 7 avg wins
Big12 69 wins, 10 teams, 6 bowls, 7.3 avg wins
Bowls 25 bowls, 22 p5 vs p5 + NCG
470 projected wins/64 teams = 7.34 average wins for p5 teams

Assumptions: conferences would win 50% of their bowls and the P5 would go 2-1 in bowls against non-P5.

So, I would say that 7-8 wins is average and 9 wins really is just slightly above average.

Success results in expanding your brand and more money then what is already guaranteed, so I don't think any school accepts mediocrity. Unfortunately, right now LSU doesn't have the right people in place to make the tough/right decisions and the same goes for auburn with Jay Jacobs, he's really hampered that program. Tennessee and aTm have fools gold and are slowly realizing their mistakes, I don't think butch or sumlin make it through next season.
