The timing of this whole situation is what scares me the most. Almost any coach we get will be coaching their teams for the remainder of the year. A Herman or jimbo is not leaving mid season to come coach at LSU. It is likely that a deal will be worked out with, hopefully, one of these two in the coming weeks though.

The scary part is that time between this "deal" is made and the finish of the season. We saw a glimpse of it with miles to Michigan, Saban to Texas, hell even jimbo to Lsu last year. There is a lot that can get in the way after an agreement has been made, and there will be LOTS of time for that to happen in our case this year.

Let's say Herman's agent and LSU come to an agreement two weeks from now. There is no way the LSU big wigs will be able to keep a cap on that for the remainder of the season. Houston gets word and they have a long time to convince him otherwise. Texas, or any other school, have time to get into the sweepstakes.

A deal made while a coach is coaching another school is pretty much worthless. Hopefully our top dogs can do this 100% behind the scenes and keep a lid on it, but idk if that's possible.

Apparently it's hard for our administration and boosters to keep their mouth shut so don't count on this being easy breezy

I don't think it's so simple to do in this day and age. There are tons of eyes on this program. A lot of people with a lot of sources. Even if they do a near perfect job of keeping this shut off, it will somehow still leak.

It's Cougar High vs. LSU. Lets be real. If Herman decides he wants LSU, there is really nothing Houston could do that could convince him to stay. Not even Big 12 membership.

not necessarily. a "letter of understanding" should do it. both parties would injure the other if they back out.

but it is going to be hard to get a deal soon. LSU has the luxery to weed out those not interested and focus on those that are. all thru their agents.

in the meantime, we have a coaching staff and they look as good or better than the last one to me.

no matter what, there is going to be a time of uncertainty. we'll know sometime in late November or so.

I don't see that as likely. Herman would be a fool to commit before seeing what other jobs open up. Even if LSU is his favorite job he can use the leverage to max out his pay.

I think the problem will be the LSU fans and boosters demanding a commitment from Herman after every loss this season. Eventually he might get tired of being bugged by the question and it might sour him on taking the job. Money isn't enough to convince any coach anymore, UH can pay every dime LSU can. Coaches move jobs for opportunities so if the situation is sour a guy might stay put (ie why Saban didn't go to Texas).

But who knows really. We have a LONG time to go.

Yeah, this process is a real PITA now with leaks, message boards, purported insiders, etc. You can't tell what is disinformation, leveraging your school, false hope, etc. This made life really difficult for Michigan fans, having to wait out a pro season. I think it was supa on here who insisted that if Harbaugh was truly interested in Michigan, he would have left early from SF. I was trying to explain you can't pull a Petrino and have to let the season play out.

Best case scenario is Herman loses on November 17, knows he is not getting in the playoff, then LSU can work a deal. And that is six weeks from now -- people are going to be bonkers by then wanting something firm. With that Louisville trouncing, I think the time might be right for Jimbo since they're not going to the playoff.

Yes. Tigerdroppings is the best place in the world as far as LSU, but this board, along with twitter, etc etc. Will cause major problems in this coaching search.

There will be a new DALSU, or two or three here very soon. They will put this board in a frenzy.
