So if it came down to Helfrich and Kiffin

Who would be more likely to jump ship first?
I know both want a HC gig again. I would think Kiffin would get a shot first, but both are damaged goods when it comes to HC history.

Kiffin, easily
his stock is much higher right now

How do you know Helfrich wants to be a HC again? Seems he is best as an OC

Kiffin is ready now. Helfrich has some work to do in order to overcome his failures at Oregon.

Kiffin definitely would leave sooner. He's far more removed from his HC failure than Helfrich is. Helfrich would need to prove himself as on OC for 3-4 years like Kiffin has before being given another opportunity IMO.

Kiffin might be gone in 1 year, definitely in 2.
Helfrich could be here for multiple years.

If that's a case and we anticipate equal success then I think we should certainly lean Helfrich.

Lane would definitely get and accept a HC offer first.
Admitting it now, I haven't done a whole lot of research on Helfrich.
Would the Oregon system even work at LSU and in the SEC?
What QB's has Helfrich developed without the help of Chip Kelly? (I don't give him credit for Mariota and don't think Oregon played very well this year.)
If the system works and he can coach QB, Helfrich seems like the better option.

O is more comfortable with Kiffin and he's also probably a better recruiter.

Booger just completely blasted the thought of Helfrich. Said Oregon never beat any physical team and would rather watch paint dry than have him.
Surprising response. I would think he would be a good backup plan to Kiffin.

All things considered, Helfrich seems the best fit; to answer your question, Kiffin, hands down.

Helfrich. He's an excellent OC and has some major rebuilding to do before he gets another shot at a HC gig.
Kiffin would be gone in a year.

I actually agree with this statement.
I think for recruiting we have to go get the big ugly hogs on OL and DL.
Then we need to do a better job with them in the weight room and conditioning.
Then we need to do a better job putting them in a position to succeed and improving technique. (Coaching).
I do not know how much OC determines the things I've written above, but I think good offensive lineman work in every system.
TLDR: We get whooped by more physical teams. We need to get back to being the MOST physical. (Maybe most physical outside of 'Bama)

Helfrich cant recruit. Lsu' problems have been securing a QB who can play at this level. His time at Colorado and on his own at Oregon, tells me he has issues with recruiting. I would much rather them go after Chaney.

Lane is a better recruiter, nobody is going to deny that.

100% false.
LSU's problems has been DEVELOPING a QB once they get here. Brandon Harris under a decent QB coach would be a perfectly serviceable starter in the SEC. While "perfectly serviceable" doesnt sound sexy - it would have won us the SEC this year, and probably last year. And would have 100% won the NC in 2011.

Kiffin would be gone as soon as possible. The only question is whether his ego would allow him to take a "lesser" HC job. He should be humbled by his career trajectory thus far, but when you've been the HC for an NFL franchise as well as two major college programs, it's hard to accept that your best HC opportunity may be at Houston, or USF, etc.
I'm sure Helfrich probably wants to be a HC again, but I think the Oregon experience is probably a bit humbling. He appears to be a guy who would be much more of a loyal "lieutenant" than Kiffin. The only concern is that he is very much a West Coast guy. If he felt the demands at Oregon were too much (and I don't know that he did), then he would be in a world of shock in the powder keg that is the SEC.

The biggest problem I have with the whole Ogeron hire is it appears (at least from the outside looking in) that the merits of his candidacy and ultimate appointment as HC were almost ENTIRELY based upon the contingency that he retain Aranda and get Kiffin. If that is the case, then Joe Alleva should be fired immediately. Even if O lands Kiffin, it's likely neither he nor Aranda will be at LSU for more than 2-3 more years.
I hope Alleva did some serious background work to make sure O could put together a good staff outside of Aranda/Kiffin. Yes, LSU will absolutely pay for good assistants, but will they be eager to work under O? That I don't know. Maybe others can provide insight
