Adam Schefter just said JDR is most likely staying in Jacksonville and SC is said to be in contact with Steve Mariucci.

That would be such a boring hire for SC..that guy doesn't have the personality to continue attracting the same level of recruits to SC that Carroll did IMHO

What is with Mike Garrett's infatuation with NFL coaches?
USC needs to hire a college coach. NFL coaches don't work in college. Except Carroll.

They seem to be stuck and scrambling for someone just to listen to them.

b/c he hit a homerun with Carroll. Sometimes a coach just fits..Carroll and his demeanor fit with southern California.
Mariucci would be a disaster

He's obsessed with failed pro coaches in every sport, not just football

All the reasons people like Del Rio as coach pretty much applies to Mooch

Steve Mariucci did quite well at CAL before he went to the 49ers.
My guess is that his NFL job history is a good selling point.
He's been on NFL TV for a couple of years, so he is pretty smooth at this point in his career.
He would be sitting on Southern CAL with its 20 million people and so many good football players.
I would not like to see Harbaugh down at USC.
My guess is that Harbaugh is going to be the real deal even if he stays at Stanford.

1 year and going 6-6 is doing quite well?

no. Del Rio and Mariucci are not the same.
Del Rio played at USC!
Del Rio was on one of the 49ers NFL champ teams.
Mariucci never played big time football. Del Rio is waaay better looking, too.

I wonder....if he continues to do well there for 2-3 years, will he be the next coach to go pro?
