If this is true--and lawd knows very little that's reported on the Internet is true--it would most likely be Chavis reaching out to SC given how random this is with no HC yet.

It was between us and Clemson for his services back in 08, and the Clemson draw was being close to home. This isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Makes a lot of sense - He knows Sumlins days are numbered.

I wonder about his mindset right now. There were several LSU players who waited on the field to see him after the game. Some of the players took it personal he left without at least saying goodbye.

Chavis was one of Tom Herman's top choices to bring as DC to SC.

It doesn't say that. Maybe he contacted them expressing interest. It just says contact was made, and there is interest there.

Total conjecture here, but with Chavis heading toward the later part of his career, maybe he's interesting in being a head coach. He's never shown much inclination toward this publicly, but there were UT fans who thought he was waiting to take over from Fulmer at some point.

If he did want to be, USCe is in a position where they would probably listen, especially since has a successful track record and is from the state. They are at the point where they are likely going the Group of 6 HC or Power 5 Coordinator route now.

It seems odd after just one year at A&M, but I don't think he planned on leaving LSU last year until Alleva treated him poorly in negotiations. With Spurrier obviously heading toward retirement for over a year now, maybe he's just been waiting for that job to open to make a play.

Again, this is just a theory that could explain this rumor, if it turns out to be true.

He did reach out to Spurrier last year before going to aTm. Spurrier said no, and we wound up with Jon Hoke's useless arse.
