Ryan Clark just said that coaches on staff were told to wait until Lane got there to see if they would be here next season.

I am not so sure that this isn't out of the ordinary. When an OC is being replaced, it is pretty standard for the new OC to decide who stays and who goes.

For them to say Lane specifically is pretty presumptuous and stupid, but to tell current employees a change at the top is happening and your job may or may not be here isn't that far fetched.

As noted, this is standard operating procedure when there is a new HC brought in, combined with naming a new coordinator, especially an offensive one. No biggie here.

I think this is the point to take away from his comment.

Ryan Clark acted like he wanted to go to coaching at one point. Bring him on if the Raymond rumor is more than some bs counter recruiting techinque.

DBU!

1. Coach O was hired under the presumption that Lane Kiffin would become OC.

2. The offensive staff was told that Lane Kiffin would be the OC and that he would make changes as he thought were needed.

pretty sure he's publicly promoted O as HC

this is what happens when you allow more access to your program. more stories get out in public

- that O assumed he had Kiffin in the bag

- Kiffin was going to be running the offense 100% and have final say in everything

They can spin it however they want but O is basically making this about him and his good Ole buddies. He says repeatedly in interviews "it's not about me" but from the minute he became interim he did nothing but launch a fierce campaign. Through his media surrogates and comrade chubbs to angle for the job.

What could he possibly hope to gain by saying this? Having all that newly won access revoked? I like Clark a lot. He is a bright guy. But I don't think he's as smart as he thinks he is.

But if O did this exactly like I am reading it--frick. That's a pretty good way to have some less than motivated recruiters out there on the trail. Not to mention they were probably lining up other opportunities just in case.
