Reasons I think House is getting fired

1) This is the obvious. We all know our defense was historically bad. There is no way, as a proven winner and football guy, that CBK can watch tape back on this past season and not feel the need to make a change.
2) No changes on defensive staff have been made. If House were staying we would at least be bringing in new position coaches. I think CBK is waiting to name a new coordinator and allow him the authority to go get the guys he wants.
3) I really do not think that McKinley flips without news of a new coordinator. I think LSU laid out our plan of what's to come and he was on board and flipped.
4) With us not having to pay Denbrock and his decent buyout, we now have adequate funding to go hire 2 solid coordinators.
5) Bowl game was more of the same. If CBK was at all on the fence that should have confirmed it.

BK said he wanted continuity through the bowl game, recruiting. Sounded pretty obvious that wholesale changes are coming.

I believe you are correct and unless the next DC is Minter, there are no hindrances to making the announcement this week.
If the Davis as DL coach rumor is true, that was the only hang-up time wise along with the bowl game. I think Kelly will want to announce the defensive staff in total, starting with the DC. If Davis is the DL and Raymond the DB coach, Kelly can announce his defensive crew as a group with the DC the headliner.

This literally does not happen. Coordinators do not hire their own staffs. I'm not sure why this ridiculous idea gets continually posted.

Can a coordinator recommend someone? Sure. Hire their own staff? LOL, no.

I think the more likely route is keeping House and revamping the staff. Kelly seems to like House and seems to believe our issues are more talent, just more reading through the lines of his comments. You don’t need a multi week evaluation period to can a coach the fielded a historically bad D.

Some could say you’re hoping he gets an NFL job but then he’s taking a million dollar pay cut at minimum for a job he could get even after fired with his full buyout

I don’t really buy this…firing a bad DC wouldn’t affect recruiting because he sucks and wouldn’t affect bowl game prep because as you saw yesterday, he sucks

Now that probably holds water for the assistants because you’d have to really stretch guys thin on the road recruiting

I have no inside info and I'm certainly not defending House, but if Kelly and House knew preseason that the defense was going to suck and that they would have severe scheme limitations due to that, it's hard for Kelly to then blame House. Now, he could fire him anyway for sure. But if he truly believes it was personnel, then that would have to be fixed regardless of the coaching.

That would line up with Kelly's comments that they have discussed the problems in detail on a weekly basis and that they know what the problems are.

If Kelly thinks House is the problem, then he should fire him. But if he doesn't, then he shouldn't fire him just to appease the fans.

and Raymond the DB coach,

I just don't see it. We had Raymond as the DB coach and Kelly let him walk. Then he went to UF where he was fired.

Why would Kelly fire Steeples, who is teaching poor technique/tackling to the DBs, to replace him with a guy who he already let go of once and recently got fired from UF for similar issues? Because he can recruit for us?

He's getting his buyout, or most of it, no matter what. If he wants to safe face, he can take an NFL job and negotiate to offset his buyout with his new salary. I would think his reputation is already in tatters, but he may think avoiding an official "firing" will make it easier to get another DC job in the future.

We made wisconsins QB look like Brett Favre.

That’s good enough for me

Yes. Florida lost two DB commits after Raymond was fired. Everyone forgot this guy was a fantastic recruiter because we lost out on Surtain. And I don't recall technique problems with our DBs when CR was here. Sunbelt Billy was likely just looking for scapegoats and I imagine Corey had no respect for the fat nerd DC he had to work for.

Really? The last few years he was here our DBs looked lost and out of place.

Outside of Stingley, what top recruits did he get in his last couple of years here that actually stayed and meaningfully contributed?

I realize he did some great stuff at lsu, but I don't see much in his resume over the past 3-4 years that screams top tier coach/recruiter.

He’s already said this by addressing the DC at ND who was in his wedding. If he felt house was the problem, he would fire bc he doesn’t mind making the tough decisions.

Everyone saying he can’t fire him now bc of recruiting and bowl prep is laughable.

House isn’t getting fired! Accept it.

Not if he leaves on his own. If he is forced out, then yes.

CBK to Michigan if Harbaugh takes nfl job. Why not just let our new HC make that decision when he is hired?

LSU’s passing defense rank in Corey’s last 2 years here:

2020: 128th
2021: 80th

He then went to Florida and took over a passing defense that ranked 25th in the country the year before he got there. With Corey, Florida ranked:

2022: 84th
2023: 68th

Pass defense under Corey his last 4 years has been fricking garbage. It’s an average finish of 90th in the country. frick that

Pass Defense rank under Corey Raymond his last 7 years at LSU

2021: 80th
2020: 128th
2019: 59th
2018: 38th
2017: 21st
2016: 23rd
2015: 66th

That’s an average rank of 59th

LSU needs much better production than that. They havent fielded a DBU worthy pass defense since 2014….10 years ago

That's what I'm saying. If he leaves it's because we asked him to leave. It's just a question of whether he is officially fired or it's a "mutual decision" with a negotiated buyout. I think both he and BK may prefer the latter.
