Considering O repeatedly went on and on about how Ensminger was basically living at the football ops building 24/7 while he was interim OC, I think it was easy enough to infer he had no desire to do it full time.

Taking Bama's OC wouldn't be a splash? Ok

Kiffin would certainly be a splash, but I'm not sure I'd consider it "taking" Bama's OC since it looks like Saban has told him he should "seek other opportunities".

True

I think it'd be a great hire, even though it wouldn't be for more than a year or two. He's shown he can run numerous variations of offenses successfully.

The fact that he would want to remain on staff, without the promotion, tells you everything you need to know.

Can anyone produce any actual quote of Ensminger saying he doesn't want to be OC?

It was pretty much stated by a lot of media so even though there is not a direct quote from Ensminger but if all of the media are stating it then at some point that is coming from Ensminger somehow.

im not sure what you're getting at. To me, it says the guy, an LSU alum, loves LSU. He happens to be a pretty good TE coach.

He is being "vetted"

He is not the top choice for two obvious reasons.

1) The Baylor BS but Admin knows it needs a proven OC and are willing to risk an "image problem" only if 2/3 other candiates turn them down first. They are worried about Briles's effect on recruiting. O wants to move to a power spread system and obviously, Briles fits that bill. the question is he worth the risk.

2) Briles wants a HC job and will exhaust all HC options before starting serious talks. Sounded like Briles will chase every D1 job like Miles 1st. LSU's OC money aspect is attractive to him though.

An attractive alternative is Gilbert. He did a good job at Texas given only a year. Admin would rather the name Briles over his protege.

My opinion is Briles is in the 3-5 range in the binder for backs ups to Kiffin.

Patience is the key. LSU KNOWS THIS IS MUST BE A HOMERUN HIRE!!!!!

So in no order, Kiffin, Briles, Gilbert, and then maybe Helfrich and Applewhite? Are those the names to watch?

I would not buy stock in either Helfrich and Applewhite.

Helfrich has reached out though.

Gotcha. It's going to be interesting to watch play out, I'm enthused about our options.

I think holding off on a quick OC hire only helps us with Art Briles. Buy some time and work the people a little to prep for the hire

So are you sitting here telling me, right now, that there are names behind Kiffin. Oh. My. God. I am floored.

So, Canada is a Rant invention with no real basis?

That's what I have thought all along.

Kind of like Kiffin to Oregon.
