at this level current head coaches are not going through an interview process. It is beneath them. bobby Bowden went to Bama to be offered the job, so he thought, and Bama only wanted to interview him. This was many years ago and he basically told them to eff off.

what was it (supposedly) that sexton and saban insisted on when this stuff started? to keep it out of the media. next there were extensions, and 8 person committees. and no media reports.

you think maybe saban told the regeants, and their egos at texas to shut up, or he doesnt come?

oh wait, no way. right??

I'm pretty sure this is literally the only place on the internet still pushing Saban to Texas. And don't give me that "we're just trolling gumps" bullshite either, it's so transparent.

i have said for i while that i do not care what any coach does. i think it is incredibly entertaining to listen to the reasons/excuses as to why saban/jimo/gus/art/etc. are all staying put.

it is all rather childish, really.

Well, Briles appears to be out of it.

That leaves three candidates that make even remote sense (two really):
(1) Strong
(2) Mora Jr.

and
(3) Nick Saban (though I think that never was possible).

Possible...possible. I actually think he is a very good under the radar candidate. He turned around a country club atmosphere at UCLA that might even be worse than what Texas had under Mack (if that's possible). NFL defensive coordinators don't run soft programs. It would be underwhelming to a large part of the fan base but he could do well. He's taken recruits from Texas (i.e., guys Texas has wanted from in state) in the last year.

Ed Orgeron.

They need someone refined who can be smooth with the big boosters and their school support politics.

Turned down his alma mater (and alleged dream job) at Washington less than a month ago to stay at UCLA.

I just don't see it.

He turned down his dream job but he'll jump at UT because what? The live music in Austin? The opportunity to host his own barely watched talk show on LHN?

I understood the LSU fans riding the Saban "he gone" meme for laughs, but it seems a lot of LSU fans legitimately bend the knee when it comes to Texas and their supposed appeal.

The potential to have the highest salary of any football coach on planet earth, coupled with the ability to never have to leave your own state to recruit Top 5 talent seems appealing to me.

Head coaches don't fly to the interviewing schools, but they damn sure get interviewed somewhere by someone somehow.

Why do you think Texas has to pay so much money to their coach? You'd think such a cushy job wouldn't need such an incentive.

there are some sleepless bama fans right now. just waiting on a hire to be announced. praying that it not be saban.

Jim Mora, Jr. - withdrew from consideration

Art Briles - I still think Texas would take him. Plus it hurts the team that has beaten texas 3 years straight. But he is not a smiling type of coach. I don't know if he wants that longhorn network gig. He is happy at Baylor, but make him say no.

Charlie Strong - still in the mix. Teddy B gone. Would he enjoy the cameras of the longhorn network? But another thought is that he is waiting in the wings for the Florida gig if it doesn't work with Muschamp.
