A surprise! The #Panthers are closing in on a hire: It’s #Bucs OC Dave Canales as their new head coach, sources say. A first-time coordinator, his work in Tampa this year — especially with Baker Mayfield — stood out.

On to Bryce Young.

Was mentioned in the last couple of days once Dan Morgan started to gain traction as the likely GM. Morgan and Canales previously worked together.

Was great for Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. Let's see what he can do for Bryce Young.

Damn, was hoping he could get another 1-2 years' experience as an OC then be a potential candidate to replace DA

I think this says more about Carolina's lack of ability to attract a good head coach than Canales's coaching ability. He was fine last year, but definitely not great. Thought he needed a couple years more of OC experience before making the jump.

Carolina was the least attractive job available. Irrational owner. Worst record in NFL but not the #1 pick because they traded it to take a guy who looked completely overwhelmed (both physically and mentally). Inconsistent fan support...even in the good days.

I don’t know if Baker Mayfield wants to coach football after his playing days are over but the man is going to know every offensive system known to man at this pace. Another OC he will have to learn a new system at TB (assuming they sign him). But if he goes elsewhere same thing, would have a new HC/OC too.
