Once again LSU goes cheap. Just going through the motions with Fisher and Herman

Everyone involved in this coaching search should be fired.
Alleva fired Miles in mid-season. Miles was a coach that had won a national championship and two SEC titles. He had drifted into no championships but maintaining 8 win seasons and minor bowls. Apparently, these were not good enough results so he was fired.
At the end of the season Alleva engaged only 2 viable candidates and gave up negotiating after less than a week. He then turned the program over to its DL coach. Literally anyone in the position could have provided this result.
It is not reasonable to expect Coach O to win either a national championship or even an SEC championship. It is hoped that he maintain 8 or 9 win seasons. That is what Miles was providing. We all assumed that Miles was fired because those results were not good enough. It is now becoming apparent that Alleva fired Miles for some other reason - perhaps because Alleva thought Miles crossed him (who knows).
This thing is a fiasco. There is no reason to end negotiations now. None. We can settle on Coach O in late December. If Alleva were an attorney and this was a big business deal he would have committed malpractice.
I think Alleva is smarter than that. That's the reason I believe his superiors were not committed to finding a coach that could credibly bring them championships. They wanted an inexpensive coach that would be "good enough" for LSU fans.
This is consistent with LSU's history of hiring coaches. The fact that LSU negotiated with Fisher and Herman (and engaged literally no one else) and ended the negotiations before either candidate announced other deals and in less than a week, demonstrates that those negotiations were merely head-fakes. Now they can say, "we tried to hire those guys, but they were just unreasonable. We want to hire coaches that want to be at LSU, not those who are just in it for the money."
Does anyone truly believe Coach O is going to win a championship at LSU? If so, why?

No chance. We are going back to the early 90s.

When mal moore wanted saban he didn't take no for an answer. Aleva didn't have the intestinal fortitude to do the same and that's why we will remain a second tier sec program

We may have a 9 or 10 win season next year. That's what Archer had. He finished with a 10-win season, a Gator Bowl win and a top-5 ranking. The next year LSU went 8-4 and got beat soundly by Syracuse in their minor bowl. Then came years of losing records and no bowl.
I'm not saying it is going to be exactly the same, but reasonably, that's much more likely than winning a championship.

Why did we fire Les Miles? Was it because we couldn't credibly expect him to win the SEC or a NC? How does hiring Coach O accomplish that?
