Do you have evidence for this? Tennessee was the first school to have a starting quarterback who was African American (Alabama wouldn't, so he came to Tennessee).

QB is a lot different than Head Coach

How many black Head Coaches have there been in SEC history? 3?

How many black QB's have there been in SEC history? Hundreds?

Hundreds seems...high.

I just don't get why anyone would immediately dismiss the prospect of Charlie Strong coming to Tennessee based on his race without strong evidence besides "Tennessee is in the South and has rich white people."

I would hate for Auburn to hire strong, for a former DC his defenses at UL are crap. He'll never dominate the SEC.

Yeah, you had an opportunity to hire a 50 year old black defensive coordinator that was just coming off a BCS national title win for a 33 or so year old white baby Kiffin who should have never been a head coach in the NFL to begin with.

How often to NFL teams hire college offensive coordinators to be their head coach?

So that's your evidence? You're extrapolating a fair amount. Since we hired a guy who promised to bring an all-star staff, Tennessee is racist.

Not really. There are probably 20+ active black SEC QB's when you include backups.

You had the opportunity to do so before and you passed.

No way Kiffin was more prepared to run that progarm than Strong.

You offered Muschamp at one point and he was alot younger than Strong.

The facts show that Tennessee favors white guys

Muschamp was the hottest name in coaching at the time.

And it helped that he was white

Meanwhile, Strong had coached 2 national title winning defenses at a major program like Florida.

But he wasn't favored because he was born black, which he has no control over.

Not just UT, but SEC as a whole

If you don't think that race plays a part in the hiring of a Head football coach in the SEC, you're naive. Black SEC Head Coaches are few and far between due to the old, white money (boosters) who are responsible for hiring/funding a new head coach. News flash, a lot of old, white money is racist.

The advancement of black coaches just isn't a huge concern to them

Again, there's really no evidence for this. But it can't be refuted, so I guess there's no discussion.

What are you talking about? You don't think CHarlie Strong would have loved the pay raise and to be able to take over a program that has a 100+k stadium?

Lane Kiffin was not more prepared to run that program than Strong.

The only reason Kiffin got that Oakland job was because the owner was a senile old man. Very rarely do NFL teams hire college offensive coordinators to be their head coach.

I understand the reluctance to admit that your university discriminated based on race but surely you know yourself that Tennessee is just as capable of discriminating based on race as anyone anywhere. I have no reason to believe that any person that is influential in UT's coaching search is concerned with considering black coaches to replace Dooley.

This I know is incorrect.
