FSU AD appears to have just announced it on Twitter - expect a formal announcement soon.

So Lanning, Sark, and Norvell have all used Bama opening to get raises. DeBoer seems to be working on one at Washington this morning too.

Jimmy Sexton getting richer today

Norvell tweet:

quote:

[Norvell] GREAT DAY to be a FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLE!! The #CLIMBContinues grateful for to lead the #NoleFamily with our incredible staff. Appreciate @PresMcCullough @SeminoleAlford and @Seminoles for continued commitment on our journey back to the TOP! The Future is bright in Tallahassee

I know a 2 time National Championship winning coach in Clemson, South Carolina that would be a great fit in Tuscaloosa.

Daboo shows no interest in signing an extension. Clempson shown no interest in offering an extension.

Who knows if Alabama actually considered offering him the job. If they did and he turned it down, that's a bit of a risky move IMO. FSU is a good program. No question about that. But the college football landscape is clearly moving to a two conference world...and FSU isn't in one of those conferences. The Big 10 and SEC have all of the negotiating leverage and, it seems, will continue to get more and more lucrative media deals. As such, the ACC will get left behind. That's why FSU wants out, NOW!

Did Norvell get some assurances that FSU will soon find a place in the SEC or Big 10? Or maybe he just leveraged the Bama opening for a bigger contract from FSU when Bama had no intention of ever offering the job to him.

Not really.

All indications are Alabama was blindsided by the retirement and was not expecting have to conduct an expedited coaching search. Then, you throw in the fact they are probably a victim of their own success here. An established HC who is winning at a relatively high level is probably reluctant to leave his current situation to step into the giant shadow left behind by Saban. It's almost a no-win situation because the expectation level there will be astronomical.

The Alabama job was never going to be easy to fill.

All indications? There have been whispers about this since Nov, and apparently some Bama brass knew about it.

I know this is tongue in cheek but I don’t know why so many LSU fans want this to happen.

He won’t be Saban, no one will. But he has proven he can build a successful football program and win championships. I would have much preferred to see Bama hire a risky unknown like Lanning over Dabo.

That was never going to happen though. Only on message boards is Lanning the better candidate.

He definitely won't let the program flounder but he's shown resistance to NIL and I don't think you can compete consistently at an elite level today without going all in on NIL.

If DeBoer stays at Washington or goes to the Seahawks things are going to get very interesting.

IMO part of the problem Bama is running into is I doubt any credible head coach wants to take the job knowing Saban will still be in the facility in an office right down the hall. Would you want Nick looking over your shoulder while you’re trying to run your program?

As much as they might not want to they might have to fall back to Dabo or Kiffin at that point
