I hate to tell other people how to spend their money, but TAF needs to bite the bullet and fire Crowton. Promote Gonzalez to save money on the new OC (I mean, why not hire and up and comer) but please get rid of Crowton. I don't think there is a single positive thing I can say about him as a coach.

TAF has decided to fight the war, not the battle.

+ 1 gazillion
Crowton's complete inability to change his approach to match our players is frankly mystifying. I can't figure out if he is just adamantly stubborn (my way WILL work) or just clueless. The underuse/misuse of Shep this year has been downright criminal. I know that Miles would like for him to leave on his own and save face, but if he won't bite the bullet then Alleva or the TAF needs to give him a good prodding. As someone who runs a business, I too like to be the "kind CEO" and let employees leave with another job lined up, but if you are that dismal in your production, sorry you need to go.

Crowton will need to sugar coat our terrible total offense ranking. I would love to hear his reasons.

I've thought about this a lot. Here is my conspiracy theory version:

My guess is that Crowton would blame the OL play. I would think he would blame Miles and Studrawa for being totally incapable of implementing the zone blocking scheme that he wants to employ. With the horrendous OL play, the offense was crippled.

My guess is that Studrawa and Miles would feel oppositely about Crowtons decision to move away from the traditional assignment blocking techniques they've always run.

I hate to play the conspiracy theorist, but I'm thinking it is something like this because of HOW bad the offense regressed. This is not simply a case of subpar personnel. It is NOT simply a case of having a inexperienced/underdeveloped QB. This is a fundamental lack of understanding of blocking concepts and how to implement them. Teams do not fall off the map as much as we have.

My conclusion is that there is a stuggle of philosphy between Miles/Stud and Crowton. Somehow, Crowton was given more power and latitude over the offense since last year (which is why Miles has allowed this to go so far without a change in philosophy).

All of this is just a guess.

I don't think your assessment is a conspiracy at all.

There is a complete lack of direction, and it starts at the top.

If Crowton and Miles disagree so vehemently about offensive philosophy, the why doesn't Miles just fire him? I mean, he and Crowton were pretty much fighting via headset during the end of the Ole Miss game.

Wow, sounds like Crowton's offense wears thin quickly wherever he's at.

Does anyone think that Alleva despises Miles so much, that he won't spend the $$$ to get rid of Crowton?

Seems that Miles lets his coordinators call their own game with very little interference from himself.

Up to the moment he gets canned, I think Crowton will comtinue to believe that he is "right". given his lack of flexability, I think we are in for a 7-5 year next year or worse. Miles or Alleva or the TAF needs to take the bull by the horns and get him gone NOW and not wait.

I just can't buy into this. I don't believe any HC could be so foolish as to keep an assistant who they disagreed with AND was taking down the team. I mean if you disagree with an assistant, but they are successful, you might keep them in spite of your disagreement. But if they aren't successful, why in the world would you keep them around - that's just plain dumb. Even Miles isn't that stupid, is he?

I believe there is a clause in Miles' contract that states he can be fired for CAUSE if the team has 7 or fewer wins.

If 7 wins were to happen, say goodbye to both he and Crowton.

What I don't understand is that offense this year was ranked much lower than last year's defense among division 1 schools. Why in the hell would keep a coordinator who gets us 112th place out of 120 schools? Doesn't make a lick of sense. Crowton needs to go and now!
