One guy that noone has mentioned, but was mentioned in regards to the Southern Miss. opening is Chris Hatcher. I live in Valdosta, GA where Chris got his start under Hal Mumme as a QB playing for VSU. He won the Harlon Hill trophy for D-II (Heisman for D-II) his senior year. He then coached under Mumme as his OC at Kentucky before Mumme got stupid with the NCAA. Hatcher then came back to VSU and did this:

Hatcher was 76-12 at Valdosta State, winning the Division II national championship in 2004

This year at Georgia Southern he went 7-4 beating App. St., who beat Michigan, while GA southern was only 3-8 the previous year. He runs a wide open offense passing the ball 60% and running 40% and even when he runs it's with 3 wide receivers to disguise the pass.

Hatcher will be a big time D-1 coach in the near future. He also is rumored to be in the running for the GA Tech job

I don't want an old has-been coach, but LSU hiring this guy would be like robbing the coaching craddle.

Little more experience please.

If you would look at an off the radar coach then think of Bobby Wallace. He was the coach of University of North Alabams. He won 3 consecutive national championships there. He left for Temple which is a grave yard for coaches (no recruiting base). He was an excellent coach at UNA and would make a good D1 coach. He now coaches at West Alabama.

Fug it...if we're going to throw out some really far fetched suggestions, why not just go after the Charlotte Independence HS coach Tom Knotts. I mean he coached them to 109 straight wins before they lost to Elder High School (Cincinnati, OH) earlier this year.
