Our search for a new HC should not be affected by the results of the rest of the season. They need to line up the best possible options and go down that list one by one. If we do end up with Coach O, I sincerely hope it's due to every option more qualified than him saying no and not "if Coach O wins X amount of games."

this. Alleva needs to go through the best candidates and make the best hire possible.

I agree with you 100%, but fear that the folks in charge of this aren't the brightest of folks.

I honestly think they know that O is not the best choice, but public opinion will matter in the long run. And O has as devout a following as I've ever seen for an unqualified coach.

If O doesn't work out, alleva can always blame the fan base.

Whatever coach O did to you, I'm sure he's sorry.

You sure got me bud!

This hurts my feelings, I love coach O and want him to retire at lsu. That's what people don't get. Us anti-O guys don't hate him...just the opposite actually. And I've not heard one person Crap on the job he does as a dline coach and head recruiter.

I just think there are several other coaches that have never had a more than 4 losses in a season (jimbo) while winning the acc 3 outta 5 years.

The other guy is less experienced, but lost only 1 game in his first year and has beaten some teams waaaaaaay more talented than his.

We just want the best for LSU. And I believe the best/least risk is not O.

agreed, we all want the best for LSU, we just disagree on who will provide it. This should be a business decision, not something based off emotion or what could become a "feel good" story.

You do realize he doesnt have to be the HC for us to take advantage of his recruiting, right? We all want O to stay, just not as HC

I didn't put anything about coach O in my post. The new coach better be able to recruit top 10 talent or it won't matter how good of a coach he is.

Absolutely. I hope like hell he remains on staff because he makes any staff in the country a better one. That doesn't mean I want him running the damn team.

Considering the gauntlet LSU is about to go through starting tomorrow against Ole Miss that would have to be a huge part of whether his is qualified to coach the Tigers going forward.

I actually disagree with you, if he can take what he has and win out "meaning we will be in the CFP" then hell he should shoot at the top of the list as far as candidates!!!

I just consider that such a unlikely event that it doesn't really merit serious conversation. If that happens of course the new information has to be taken into account. I don't know how much it changes what other coaches would bring to the table.

I'm inclined to believe that any LSU success this season is largely an indictment of Les Miles, not necessarily a big feather in the cap for Orgeron, although he will have had something to do with it.

Straight to the top? Absolutely not, up a few spots maybe. What if Saban/Meyer is willing to come coach here? The chances of that happening is probably just a little less likely than us winning a NC this year considering we don't control our own destiny and require other teams to lose for that to happen.

What you're suggesting
Coaching search will happen only if Coach O loses x amount of games

What should happen
Coaching search will happen, if Coach O does well he'll move up in consideration.

So does anyone believe a coach can navigate the toughest remaining schedule in the country on pure emotion?

We have more talent than 4 out of the 5 remaining teams. We've already gone over how Coach O's biggest upside is that he lets others coach. What is it exactly that he is providing if it's not the scheme and gameplan?

Perhaps on paper. Georgia and Tennessee were both considered Top 10 until they were proven not to be. Until proven otherwise all 5 remaining teams are ranked and ranked ahead of LSU.

Is the new fall back position that if LSU wins out that "well we were more talented anyway."?

This isn't new, with the talent we consistently have on the roster we should expect to beat teams that are less talented than we are. Les did not meet these expectations which is why he got fired.
