As I said in another post, I'm talking - so I know nothing. Just pure speculation on my part.

I think that last year LSU and Jimbo were very close to having a deal. So close that the LSU administration, at least some of them, thought it was a done deal.

Then, for some reason, the deal fell through. When it did, that very week, LSU announced Miles wasn't being fired.

I have no idea or even guess, what went wrong. Did Jimbo ask for more after he had agreed in principle? Did Jimbo just change his mind? (His family situation was really in a state of flux; that might have contributed.) Did LSU, for whatever reason, back off?

Like I said, I have no idea. What do y'all think?

And, has aything changed this year? Did Jimbo tell Jimmy Sexton to call LSU and let them know he was still interested in the job? Has the bridge between Jimbo and LSU been burned and he really isn't even a candidate? Did LSU call Jimmy Sexton and up the offer they made to Jimbo high enough that he said he'd take it?

BTW, Jimbo appears to check off all the resume requirements for the job. On paper, he seems like the perfect guy:

1. Proven winner as a HC.
2. Proven successful offensive coach.
3. Proven record of developing QBs. (3 straight first round picks)
4. Proven record of recruiting in the southeast.
5. Comes from the Nick Saban coaching family.
6. Former coach at LSU, understands the LSU culture.

I have no idea if Jimbo is your guy. But, just in case he is, I'm trying to figure out who is on our short list to replace him.

If we're going to disregard speculation, we might as well close down this board.

Cut him some slack. He doesn't know that you have to phrase everything as an insider for people to talk to you about this stuff.

This. Our governor stepped in at the final hour and shut that deal down based on perception of the deal. This account has been verified by many people. The deal would have "looked bad" in the face of struggling institutional finances.

I think he was coming if we had support from the administration, i.e. University President, to do a little more to secure him. I truly think he was leaning towards coming but needed a little extra due to the family situation, and that something extra never came for political reasons.

How do you feel about Lane Kiffin as your head coach if Jimbo comes here?

I'm not sure anyone knows the truth for sure, but the word on the boards and other pay sites was that LSU Pres. fooked it up last minute.

I don't suspect the bridge is totally burned if that's the case, but who knows.

I like Jimbo a lot, but i think it would be better for the program to bring in a guy like Herman. I feel like he would just light up the whole team and program. I think, after Les, lsu needs a young guy like that. Jimbo would be great as well, but Herman is still my 1a choice.

Thanks. I remember all that talk about LSU spending millions to fire and hire a coach while the state was slashing the budget. Didn't know f the governor's office officially got involved to pressure LSU not to make the deal or not.

Say what you will about Kiffin, but his offenses put up points. He's a flake, but damn, he's good. His offenses put up more points per play than Herman's...let that sink in.

He wouldn't be on my A list or B list. I would want someone with a proven record as a HC.

That is an interesting question if Jimbo leaves. I think Florida State is one of the better jobs in the country. Only real knock against FSU, as far as I know, is that they don't pay assistant coaches very well.

Frankly, I think the fallout of last year has poisoned the chances of Jimbo coming to LSU. I think Fisher is at FSU until he retires, unless he loses his edge or jumps to the NFL.

Yes would have looked bad. Louisiana people are too stupid to force the government to change how the budget is balanced. They love having healthcare and education slashed.

Funny you mention that. If he loses to Clemson 63-20 there may be Nole fans willing to buy his plane ticket to Baton Rouge.

Honest question. How is this an advantage? Nick constantly has guys become head coaches but they suck. Jimbo is the best of them and he's not good enough to keep up the success we've seen here.

Jimbo ship has sailed when he signed for pay increase and possibly large buyout last year. Herman is the best option right now.

Good question. I don't have a good answer. I don't have a list of all the coaches that have come from him, but I do know there is a perception out there that he turns out good coaches. The jury is still out but Kirby Smart and Jim McElain are two of his.
