An update on LSU's defensive coordinator search, per sources:

Arkansas DC Barry Odom is among the early names of interest along with others like Cincinnati DC Marcus Freeman, Wisconsin DC Jim Leonhard and former Cowboys defensive play-caller Kris Richard.

I'm not going to lie, this thought popped in my head, too.

Some here consider TBL to have an inside track at LSU. He stated that he expected the DC hire to be a minority, so I guess there are a couple of names on that list you can scratch if true. Not sure of TBL’s connection legitimacy, but others here may know.

I don't know shite about Richards. How would y’all feel if he were picked?

Oh great LSU is going the race route instead of best candidate then? If that happens it will make it easy for me to NGAF.

I dont love a Richard hire. This is a guy who, after being fired from his last 2 jobs as the Seahawks DC and Cowboys DB's coach, sat out this year because he felt like he was too good take a job as a DBs coach.

quote:

Richard, 41, has taken a pass because he’s betting on himself.

Jettisoned by the Cowboys in the sweep that included the firing of coach Jason Garrett, Richard interviewed for several jobs early this year – including two head coaching positions – but was offered nothing with a rank higher than defensive backs coach.

No thanks.

“It’s kind of like knowing your worth, knowing your value,” Richard told USA TODAY Sports. “What’s the difference between the two? Do they coincide? Are they interchangeable? Cutting through all of that, I wasn’t willing to take anything less than I am. I know what I am and I know what I am capable of.

Given the culture of quitters and the "I'm too good for this shite" mentality that's infected LSU, I don't think hes the right guy to rally the players around the program.

It makes it easier when most likely the best candidate is black. If we get him, it's two birds with one stone.

In my best coach O voice (clears throat): He brings energy, and if you ain’t bringin’ energy, you don’t need to be here.”

2 white guys, 2 black guys listed. 2 too many? The most sought after DC candidate in the country is black. So what’s the problem?

If Richard ends up as DC, what position would he coach? Raymond was a priority for O to retain. Would he simply manage and call defense?

He’s from the Pete Carroll coaching tree so he has the connection Ed usually likes. He runs a 4-3 scheme with heavy zone coverage that’s all I pretty much know about the guy
