LSU is one of the top jobs in the country as much as I hate to say it.

Therefor, my list:
1. Chip Kelly;
2. Jimbo Fisher;
3. Gary Patterson;
4. Pat Fitzgerald (Northwestern);
5. Justin Fuente;
6. Tom Herman.

What LSU fans don't seem to want to look at is that Jimbo has a $5M buyout at FSU. So LSU is going to pay $15M+ to get rid of Les and then another $5M+ to get Jimbo? $20M just to CHANGE coaches, that doesn't count the HC's salary moving forward. Not happening.

Grouped together in the "meh" category. Look great in this one year at UH and Fuente has steadily improved Memphis, but not sure either is classified as of yet as the Home Run hire that Meyer was seen as coming out of Utah.
I would bet on "the field" if these 6 were the candidates to choose from.

probably true but Les' buyout spread over 8 years helps. 15M is 15M but when you can finance something at 9% interest, it keeps that balance sheet attractive.

I'd be cautiously optimistic with Fuentes but pumped for Herman.

if you're going to spend $15 million to buy out the coach you don't want, you really think LSU wouldn't spend another $5.5 to get the coach they do want?

You have to at least try with Jimbo. If that won't happen you go to Mullen. If he also says no then offer Fitzgerald double his salary.

1. He's done in the NFL and that's ok. Saban and Spurrier did the same things.
2. LSU would find the money if Jimbo said yes.
3. Patterson appears somewhat frustrated about his ceiling at TCU. He even visited Bama to get recruiting advice. best advice is to move to better school and conf
4. I'm sure money and winning take a back seat to being an alumnus.
5. Herman and Fuente are back ups. Would not consider unless the rejections start coming in.

We're not getting Fisher, Patterson, Kelly. OT posters have a better chance of being the next head coach than these guys.

I agree.
I think that LSU, should it begin a search for a new HC, would have its choice of the selections off the coaching carousel this cycle. The only program that I see as competing with them as the top choice would be USC.
So LSU should be in play for any candidate interested in another job.

I've heard my share of criticisms about Saban from LSU fans, but I don't remember anyone stating this. Certainly not multiple posters so as to reflect a trend.

I'm not sure Chip Kelly can recruit the Southeast. The guy has a strange personality, and it's not going to be conducive to swaying Southern, black mamas to send their boys to play for him.

Several of his big time players at Oregon were from Texas.

As a non LSU fan, I would rank LSU as the top job in the country.
- LSU has history but not top 3-5 history that makes fanbase irrational
-Talented roster on campus
-Only sole P5 program in a top 6 football recruiting state
-Access to Texas + Florida (meh MS talent)
-Solid facilities and great homefield advantage
-No weird baggage like Texas where you need to rub shoulders with boosters just right
- LSU has history but not top 3-5 history that makes fanbase irrational

-Only sole P5 program in a top 6 football recruiting state
-Access to Texas + Florida (meh MS talent)
-Solid facilities and great homefield advantage

Herman would get that label in another year or two, but in today's coaching marketplace, a guy like Urban Meyer staying at a Utah for a few seasons is unlikely. Someone will throw money early looking for the next big guy. But he still fits the bill more than Fuente.
Fedora and Mullen aren't on this list. Neither is Wittingham. They would be considered before Fuente, and probably before Herman because they are all established Power 5 guys. LSU would be some level of step up for any of them.
