re: List of coaches to replace Miles if Miles does indeed take the UM job

The timing is bad for Jimbo. He's not going to leave in the middle of a NC run, and if he gets to the championship game (very possible) the earliest he could realistically take the LSU job is mid-January (approximately 3 weeks before national signing day) He may want to leave FSU, but this isn't the year to do it.
That's why I don't think Jimbo would leave. He just won a NC at FSU and definitely isn't going anywhere if he wins 2 in a row. I just think he understands almost better than anyone the dynamics about how yes, the SEC will always have the inside track to the playoff, but it's easier to run through your schedule in a weaksauce conference like the ACC.

Best realistic candidate - Butch Davis. He built the early 2000's Miami teams which had a riduculous amount of NFL talent on them. He also recruited multiple NFL players to UNC, a school with relatively little notoriety as far as football is concerned. There's no reason to think that he couldn't expand LSU's roster with even more NFL talent. That's a scary thought!
I think Butch would be a very good hire for LSU, and he'd definitely leave the program on good footing for his successor, but I think he's too old and carries too much baggage, especially for the SEC. Given what transpired at Miami and UNC, the NCAA would put whatever program that hires him under a microscope, and that most likely wouldn't be good.

Didn't he have a nervous breakdown or something?
I didn't hear anything about that. I know that he was going to take the FIU job (FIU!!!!!) at the end of last season but there was some kind of contract issue with UNC.

Too much reason and not enough excitement in your post.

Will almost certainly be someone like this or like the Memphis coach.
Florida just hired Jim McKlewain and y'all think we are pulling a Patterson or a Briles
Jimbo is also pie in the sky unless he hates his administration or something.
Jim Mora turned down Texas but y'all think he's coming to LSU?

Plus what's wrong with waiting another week. Make the best hire and recruiting will be fine.

Briles and Patterson would be up there with Jimbo for me

So?
Maybe Foley had his eye on him from his Bama days and is trying to duplicate the success of hiring a decent MWC from last time.
Dabo, Jimbo, and Patterson are all worth making a run at.
Gundy might be looking to get away too.
You gotta try.

If there is one thing, it's the fact he just went 11-1 in his best season yet, had a great team, was co-champ of his conference and still didn't make the playoff. You can sell the "if you want the national title, the path goes through the SEC" line. The SEC champ will rarely get shut out of the playoff.
Actually, they went undefeated a few years back and won a major bowl game, yet still no Natty. Also, he didn't seem to be nearly as bent out of shape as Briles. Maybe he just handles his frustration better or because he has already been through this before.

Im pretty sure we wouldnt suffer in recruiting if we retain wilson to recruit the 3 weeks jimbo wasnt gonna be here. We may lose 1 or 2 with les and cam moving on. But i doubt the class would bolt if you told them jimbo was coming

Patterson also seems like a competitor and wants to challenge himself

Can you list Bobby Petrino - I need a good laugh
You can laugh (and he IS a total douche) but he's one of the top 5 coaches in the biz.

Top 5? After Saban and Meyer, there are only three spots left

Possibly, but I think this same conversation was had a few years back before he signed an extension for big money and gave the impression that he was at TCU to stay.

Yeah.
He's got a pretty good gig now though.
