One drive against Miss State? Which particular play call was so special?

Character concerns are the main reason I don’t think schools want him. He obviously has a pretty big ego and some of his decisions are questionable at best. As far as just a coach for offense, it doesn’t get much better than Lane. It’s all the other shite that makes people not want him.

Most of the talk about Lane is more legend than reality. Also, who in the media asks Lane about jobs? Hardly anyone. I really don't think Lane is hounding any school about a job.

This.

The looney Al Davis press conference in Oakland followed by his quick exit from UT and subsequent tarmac firing by an idiot AD were largely circumstantial.

But his easy going and playful social media personality and our own thirst for gossip within Saban’s fortress led to this mythical character that honestly hadn’t been all that interesting and not at all controversial.

What about him getting fired by Saban in the middle of the CFP? What about him masquerading as Joey Freshwater to pick up coeds while in Tuscaloosa? When it happens everywhere he goes, hard to call it circumstantial and/or legend. It’s who he is

People who don’t think Kiffin is a good coach just out themselves as someone who really doesn’t know much about football and just follows what others say.

Dude can coach. He’ll do well at Miami in the future.

He didn’t get “fired”.

Everyone knew he was leaving for a HC job (except clown dick Alleva who thought he’d come to work for his former bodyguard) and Saban being the perfectionist/dickhead he is he acted like it was a distraction so he asked him to leave early since Sark was already on staff and was replacing him anyway.

How’d they do in that championship game without him anyway?

Saban comments on Kiffin taking FAU HC job

quote:

"We think this is a wonderful opportunity for him to be a head coach again," Saban said. "I think FAU has selected someone that is going to do a great job for them. He's done a great job here molding our offensive players to what they could do to have the best chance to be successful. I think that's always something that's very telling about the quality of a coach."

And here’s his comments after they beat Washington and decided to let Kiffin go before playing Clemson: LINK

quote:

This wasn't an easy decision and we appreciate the way Lane handled this in terms of doing what is best for our team," Saban said in a statement. "At the end of the day, both of us wanted to put our players in the best position to be successful. Obviously, we are in a unique situation here where we have our next offensive coordinator already on staff. We have full confidence that Sark will step in right away and make this a smooth transition."

Privately, Saban was worried Kiffin already had one foot out the door before the Crimson Tide played Washington in Saturday's CFP semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta. He worried that Kiffin was spending too much time assembling his coaching staff and recruiting players for his new school. Kiffin had coaching candidates flying to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for interviews during the holiday break before the Peach Bowl, and then he and new Owls offensive coordinator Kendal Briles interviewed more candidates in Atlanta last week.

According to sources, Saban fumed when Kiffin was several minutes late for a staff meeting in Tuscaloosa before the Crimson Tide broke for the Christmas holiday.

But yeah way more sensational to act like he was fired for some sort of juvenile acts to fulfill your confirmation bias.

The entire Joey Freshwater phenomenon came from one Rant post in 2015 that went viral and became validated when a few blog type sites picked up on.

It became legend among sports boarders because it just sounds awesome and is funny to talk about and was made even better because Kiffin is a pretty funny guy that played into it and said it was actually Jimmy Chestnuts or whatever as a joke.

Anyone with a brain can understand that Kiffin was likely just in a bar and at some point takes to some drunk coeds, they were with other guys btw, and instead of just being like yeah I’m Lane he fricked with them a bit and was like nah I’m Joey Freshwater to play coy or cool or whatever.

So a tongue in cheek comment at a bar that was later posted by one of the guys who was likely butthurt that their girls were distracted by him all night turned into some internet legend a year later that idiots without the ability to think for themselves use it as some huge flaw because they like to act like everything is some huge scandal.

Here, in all its glory, the entire story of Joey Freshwater

SB Nation with link to the original post on SEC Rant

quote:

My friend was in a Tuscaloosa bar about 6 moths ago and saw Kiffin there. Kiffins proceeded to hit on one of his friends under the alias "Joey Freshwater". My friend knew it was Kiffin though and called him out on it, but he kept claiming "he gets that a lot". "Freshwater" ended up getting shutdown by the girl (I guess she wasn't in to guys twice her age) and goes to try his luck somewhere else. I have been waiting a long time to tell the legend of "Joey Freshwater" and now seemed like the perfect time since he was found cheating

The horror!! Don’t let this maniac anywhere near a big time program!!

I’d want a superior coach at my program, so yeah, I wouldn’t want Kiffin hear it.

I only would have one issue with bringing on Kiffin. He seems to perpetually be linked to other jobs.

Saban typically takes the high road when discussing coaches. He also understands that Kiffin is no threat to him or his teams. Don’t read too much into it.
