Correct me if I am wrong, but Jimbo signed his extension in September 2021, while Orgeron was still the coach here. It had clearly been in the works for a while.

Its just plain wrong to attribute any reaction to LSU's situation to the extension, unless A&M was so certain we would fire Orgeron midway through the 2021 season, they decided to preemptively extend Jimbo. (sarcasm)

It was simply the Aggies reading their own press clippings. They've always defined success on their own terms, and Jimbo had met those terms, so he was due more money.

They put actual stock into the covid year which should have been massively discounted and largely forgotten about

He was extended after aTm finished at #5. Nothing to do with LSU.

Aggie gave extensions to Sumlin and Fran after not winning anything as well. That's just what they do and they never learn.

HOW A&M GOT “LSU’D”

When Fisher arrived to College Station in the winter of 2017, he left Florida State because then A&M athletic director Scott Woodward offered him a 10-year, $75 million contract. In April of 2019, Woodward left A&M to accept the same position at LSU. The Aggies finished 2020 9-1, and were ranked fifth in the final poll.

The 2021 season had not even begun and there was considerable speculation that Coach O was not long for LSU. Jimbo was a top candidate for an opening that didn’t exist. Like Aranda, Jimbo had previously served as an assistant at LSU. In an effort to end any chance that LSU, and Woodward, would have to potentially lure Jimbo to Baton Rouge, in Sept. of ‘21 the Aggies now infamously gave Fisher that 10-year, fully guaranteed $95 million extension through 2031.
Given Woodward’s track record at both Washington and Texas A&M, he was likely never going to hire Aranda or Fisher. Woodward hired Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly. Extending Aranda may ultimately be regrettable, but it was logical at the time; what A&M did when the “threat of LSU” appeared was a self-inducted panic attack that will take years to pay off, and gives them the national title in “Brain Dead Guaranteed Buyouts.”

Texas 8&4 will never learn. Throw money at a wall till it sticks, the thing it it will never stick. The culture there is just bad, expectations are very high for a team that has not won anything sense the 30's. Its just comical

Woody only did with Dimbo’s original contract what he was told to do by the big $$$ boosters.

Bjork is the moron that extended the deal back out to 10 years with a raise.

Surprised he isn’t getting more heat unless he just did what the money men said do.
