It is simple...Michigan has to make this hire

it is the best hire they can make in my opinion.

LSU does not need to retain CLM. I think it is the wrong time for LSU to have to make a change but in my opinion LSU can survive/thrive without CLM. It is not a knock on him but more of a salute to LSU.

Kids right now are coming to LSU because it is LSU, not just the staff. Kids are not going to UM like they used to because "this is Michigan, the winningest program in NCAA history" - They have lost some of that star power whereas LSU has vastly improved it over the last decade or so.

Michigan is desperate and if CLM meets with them I dont see how they can let him walkaway now after Harbaugh didnt work out. People are not lining up to coach at UM (RR was the 3,4 person so it is far more than just RR). If CLM leaves, LSU will have its choice of coaches IMO. There may be only about 5 coaches in the country that would turn LSU if they made a serious offer and that may honestly be a stretch.

Just my .02.

FWIW, I also dont see any way Chavis goes with CLM.

This is where you are wrong. Parents of these recruits love Les Miles. If he leaves it will have a very negative impact on this Top 4 class. FACT

I understand that. I did not say everyone would stay. The point is that LSU at this point in time is one of those schools that kids will stay at in times like this because the program itself is so much bigger than one person.

Saban is Alabama. If he left right now they would be in deep trouble. CLM can leave LSU and I would not consider it a total catastrophe. This is not to be negative towards other schools in any way or come off as if CLM or the staff are not a valuable part of the program.

Of course some kids will be tied to CLM and it may hurt a little bit - that is natural and expected - I just feel that it may not be as bad at LSU as it would be at other places.

Simple point - many people see "LSU" - they think "LSU". People see "BAMA" and they think "SABAN". That is just a small example - you may even throw Florida and Meyer in there. Michigan you just think "WTF" right now. Even at Ohio St I think Ohio St and not the Vested Man.

This is just my opinion - to each his own

I believe Miles will stay at LSU.If he leaves, there will be one WR recruit who will be at another SEC school playing against LSU as a freshman rather than starting for LSU.

and an excellent example, since Saban was hired there is no more Alabama football, its Nick Saban's football team.

Look - if we want to play the money game then go offer Saban a huge raise and let's get it on.

Are you serious??

Ever hear of this guy??

Alabama football is a hell of a lot more than Saban. I would argue that as of now, Saban means more to LSU's football history than he means to UA's past.

The odds say, LSU's best chance at winning another NC in the next 5 yrs is if Miles leaves actually.

Every BCSC team has had a new coach when they won with the exception of Mack Brown.

Miles leaving will greatly increase our chances of winning a NC.

I did not mean historically man - Just what these kids today will relate to

You think kids these days give a dern about 25-50 years ago?

Maybe 1 in a couple thousand who have parents and grandparents that teach them the history.

In todays world - recruits think Saban in this example. Someone said it above and it is true - It is Saban ball - not Bama Football. The university and media of the world promote SABAN - not Alabama football.

Of course.

But the earlier poster is correct. The current view of Alabama is SABAN U.

No one born after 1975 even remembers Bear Bryant coaching a game. That's a LOT of people.

He means a lot to people INSIDE the Bama program, but outside of Bama... the current image is Nick Saban.

One thing people forget is those kids do play their butts off for him. You can overcome a fair share of coaching errors if you can get the kids to do that.

Landry's gonna be a great one, no doubt about that. If Miles does leave I hope JL waits and talks to the new coach before making the jump. With a good hire LSU is a top five team in '11; I hope Landry's part of it.

JL, Freak and Hilliard are early enrollees. School begins Monday. Not enough time to find a new school.

They are tigers no matter what

He's right that people thing Saban when they think of Bama. And he's referring to recruits. 18 year olds have no reverence for Bear Bryant.

agreed...these kids and parents also like stability in a program. Les Miles has the program very stable.

It is ridiculous to discount the importance of Les.

Data association and causality are very different things. Arriving at your conclusion is simply faulty.

I didnt. ESPN did. They showed the stats that prove it. Programs that change coaches are more successful after.

The nice thing about this Michigan talk is that if Les turns them down, it will be over for 3-4 years, minimum. He is not the candidate du jour for every job that comes open. In other words, we won't have to worry about him leaving for the foreseeable future.

amazing how many people think this, yet there are so few examples of coaches who have achieved Les' level of success at LSU. It's not as easy as most think.
