I'm really not that down about this hire

Granted I don't know much about Steele outside his past jobs, but I'm really not all that upset with how the staff handled this. Chavis obviously put us in a bind with the timing of this move, which made it much harder on the staff to find their guy. It looks as though they talked to a lot of good candidates and for one reason or another, couldn't sway them, very likely a result of the timing that few good, viable candidates were on the market.
So we get a guy with experience, albeit not great success, with being a coordinator and head coach at other places. He'll have plenty of talent to work with and an intact staff familiar with the players. Perhaps the D will take a step back or perhaps not, but the talent hasn't just disappeared and Steele appears to have a recruiting prowess to ensure it continues coming in.
It was a sudden coaching search and I think Steele is a guy Miles has liked for some time to be on staff. If he struggles, then LSU will have all the time in the world next year to target whatever top coaches become available. I don't know the details of the contract but I can't think we're locked in with this hire.
And for all we know, Steele may well be serviceable with the talent we have. The doom and gloom reaction from posters here and on other boards is over dramatic IMO. If Steele doesn't work out, then he doesn't work out. He's the DC not the head coach for Christ's sake. The sky is not falling and the program is not declining because our DC hire isn't a huge splash. The insecurity of the fanbase is understandable right now but not particularly reasonable.
The program is still in great shape. Remember, this coaching search was done with very bad timing. It is NOT an indication that our DC position is undesirable like the trolls on the SEC Rant want you to believe. Pull yourselves together. Chavis and A&M got over on us in the short term, let them have their fun while they can. We are still primed for a special season if we can overcome our truly biggest hurdle, which is the QB spot.
tl;dr cliff notes:

After careful consideration, I will not speak about this hire if these following things transpire:
1) Haley is gone
2) orgeron is hired
3)Raymond stays
That means:
Steele will coach LBs which he was good at
Orgeron will coach DL
Raymond will coach DBs
All three are outstanding position coaches within themselves. Plus recruiting will get a MAJOR boost.
It's just putting it all together in practice and gamedays.
And Miles/Cam fixing that fricking travesty of an offense.

Steele recruits well and if we land BeBe then all is well IMO

I'm all in for O. For all we know, Steele could be a stop gap hire who eventually gets shifted to LB coach if he can't get it done at DC. With O on staff too we'll have tremendous recruiting and great positional coaching. Obviously the jury is out on how Steele's scheming pans out with LSU talent.
Again, I think the staff did what they thought was the most reasonable thing given how things played out. An Orgeron hire would go a long way toward rallying the fanbase behind these moves.

I'm not too down about this hire. This post I think is the same thoughts of any competent fan, no matter if they're nega's or the ones trying to pump sunshine up other people's asses (usually just to get people to calm the frick down).
It could end up working out pretty well. And no one is happy about the passing game yet. It takes a few years for a team to really absorb and execute a good coordinator's style, but the college game has to adjust to that fact. I hope we get that aspect together soon.
