If you hire Jimbo, here is what you can expect.

First, the good far outweighs the bad. The man is a winner. He is a great coch and a great recruiter. He understands how to run a program, not just on the field but in the entire "infrastructure." He employs psychologists for the kids. He uses all the latest technology to measure players efforts (GPS system, cutting edge stuff). He knows exactly what he needs in terms of infrastructure and if the administration won't give it to him, he won't come.
Just want to give you one minor warning. There is one way he will frustrate fans to no end. He is tied at the hip to Rick Trickett, OL coach. Trickett is a firm believer in basing the running game on zone blocking, specifically the zone stretch. (Note running the option, not the zone read. Zone blocking is totally different.) Nole fans have gotten unbelievably frustrated at seeing Nole OL dance around and "finesse block" rather than blow folks off the line.
Yes, we have had some great backs, Dalvin Cook just being the latest. And, yes, they get good stats.
But, the frustration comes when it is 3rd and 1. Or it is first and goal at the five. Those have become passing downs for us because the OL can't blow people off the line and there are too many guys in the box to run the zone stretch.
Once again, Jimbo is a great coach. His strength is his ability to coach QBs. Every QB he has ever coached has gotten better and better. Heck, he made E J Manuel and Christian Ponder first round draft picks.
Like all great coaches, he is a perfectionist. He accepts nothing less. He exudes confidence, but not cockiness. He will not be intimidated by playing Bama or playing in the toughest division in the country.
If you get him you will win.

jimbo has always believed in perfecting a basket of bread and butter plays. he did that here as OC.

Here are two memories of Jimbo Fisher.
Not sure if dates are right.
1) 2000 against Miss. State. This was a tough game. Not many yards. Then in the 4th quarter, holes opening up all over the line. Joe Lee Dunn could do nothing about it. And Fisher just kept calling runs one after the other. over and over again, gashing them.
2) The 7-3 loss to Auburn. J-Rock and about five other NFL players on offense and somehow only getting 3 points out of that game. Unbelievable. Looking back, have to blame that on the recently fired head coach.

Houston- 13-1 in year 1 and beat the brakes off Jimbo
Then turns around in game 1 and beats the brakes off #3 OU

Not that Herman is Saban
But come on, Herman is even more accomplished than Saban and Miles before being hired
The guy has been marinating for years and ready for a P5 job
I'd love the Jimbo hire, of course. And Herman may be NFL bound of successful somewhere big.

Actually thought the Saban hire was the best in years. He had brought michigan state back from friggin nowhere. I don't think people remember how bad they were pre Saban. I had no doubt LSU would no longer be an automatic w.

God help you if he makes a bad hire, look at our defense in 2013 and the talent/experience we had coming back in 2014... Trickett has never had above a B+ OL, he hired Randy Sanders as a supposed OCIW and the only OC I've ever seen that was worse than Jeff Bowden...was Randy at UT. Jimbo is a great QB coach and manager, but his offense is stale and his refusal to admit his own hiring mistakes have put what should have been another Alabama into the category of the "stars aligning". Thank you Jimbo and Jameis for 2013, a truly magical year, but Jimbo to LSU and Herman to FSU? Let's shake on it

The ZBS is really only two plays: inside and outside. I detest it at the professional level, but I understand the appeal in college.
If you only have to practice / teach / rep 2 basic run patterns, you free yourself up for an awful lot of work on pass blocking.
Not having the ability to line up and push the defense is pretty ridiculous, though.

Mind blown. Honestly did not know that until you mentioned it here. Just googled it, and read the kirby smart interview. Really interesting stuff. That's really impressive, imo.

Don't doubt it, but I've just been in a tortuous relationship the past 11 years. I kept begging he get professional help to save this marriage, but he just wouldn't listen. Ultimately, i had to let him go.

I guess the most impressive part of that was that it was Saban who was asking. Do you know if Saban has ever had to do that before since he's been at Alabama?
