1. Chris Petersen - Love his coaching style. For all the nutjobs that say you can't have a defense with a spread offense, this man is living proof you can have a dominant defense and spread offense his entire career. He's sent a lot of talent to the NFL at Boise St and will start to do it at Washington now.
2. Chip Kelly - didn't think this would be a legit option at first, but it just might be Jim Harbaugh (well Harbaugh was good in the NFL) or Nick Saban 2.0. All we would need is a good DC to pair with him. If Aranda would at least finish out his contract, this would be a real good pick.
3. Dan Mullen - if he had the talent, he could win big. He actually cares about defense and the run game and he's a QB whisperer. He wins 8-9 games in the toughest division in college ball with the worst talent in the division (although this year looks like it will be bad).
I would say Hugh Freeze, but the sanctions stuff is a little hard to swallow.

Bobby Petrino. I don't care if he's a POS, I'm willing to compromise my values for LSU Football.
You sound like Louisville fans.. He has a $10mil/year left on his contract buyout, don't think we'll be throwing down that kind of cash..

Chip Kelly
Pat Fitzgerald
Kyle Whittingham
If they fall through, consider someone like Jim Tressel, NFL assistants or (God forbid) promoting an assistant and hiring someone like Jeff Tedford to be the OC so you have an experienced college head coach on staff.
My sentimental (but utterly unqualified) choice would be Frank Wilson.

Larry Fedora would probably be 3rd choice.
The thought of a Petrino Offense in Tiger Stadium is something to contemplate. At least interview him again.
What about bringing Kendall Briles on board in some capacity as well? Don't know how much he was directly involved in the mess at Baylor. He knows Offense.

Guy is a hell of a coach and recruits the right guys for his system, can't deny that.
People just don't like the guy, that's the only reason more people don't mention him.

Jon Gruden! If we start talking about it again, he would come. He loves baton rouge! He was looking when everyone thought les was going to michigan.

Art Briles as HC isn't going to happen. It'll be years before he gets that stink off his name. But Art Briles the OC? I could probably get behind that.

Dan Mullen is a solid coach and does a lot with not a lot of talent. I think he would kick arse at LSU.
He is only 44, a former OC under U Meyer at UF, done well with limited Miss St talent/facilities, and knows the SEC landscape (sched/recruiting). Overall, he has experience running a SEC program. I too think he would be a safe choice, with a high ceiling.
