I wonder if they're trying to get Hankton settled and happy before announcing anything.

An OC with zero Power 5 play calling experience and very pedestrian numbers at LATech when he was the OC.

If it weren’t for Underwood, this board would absolutely have a nuclear melt down if Sloan was even CONSIDERED for the OC position.

The last thing an inexperienced LSU offense needs is an inexperienced play caller.

Idk. It’s pretty well understood and documented how well he recruits and develops QBs. He was integral in JD’s jump in performance this year

That’s great for a recruiter and a QB coach.

How is he when he’s calling plays? The one shot he got at LATech, he was mediocre.

Well he just got a shot in the bowl game.

He got a QB in his 1st start to score 35+ points against a top 20 defense so he did alright.

Joe Sloan 2021 offense at LATech:

78th in total offense
35th in passing
107th in rushing

I didn’t count 2020 because that season doesn’t count. But if you guys think it counts, here’s his squad then…

118th in total offense
74th in passing
120th in rushing

Thats. Not. Good. Enough. I don’t care how much one QB he coached improved.

What happens when you’re 3 games in after teams have your offense on film and you start SEC play?

Maybe this is true if Kelly hadn’t done this before.
It’s his offense and he’s hired first time OCs before and it worked out.
And you have to include Underwood in the equation. A great recruited and a great developer of QBs is essential.
It would be a great hire IMO.

If we didn’t have the #1 offense in the country idk if we look internally

but Kelly runs the offense, Sloan gives us continuity with guy like nuss who’s been in the system a couple years.

The ONLY evidence that you all have of this is Jayden Daniels improvement between his two seasons. How much of that is Sloan? How much of that is Kelly? How much of that is Denbrock? I’d be willing to bet that it’s not just Sloan.

That question would apply to every single OC in the nation that isn't a current OC in the SEC.

The ONLY evidence you have is your opinion.
There has been much written over the past year about Sloan’s influence.
Get someone to read it to you.
Also, after a slow start I liked the game he called in the bowl.
It’s Kelly’s offense and that’s not gonna change.

Then look back at his numbers at LATech. By LSU standards, they’re AWFUL. And that’s CUSA, not the SEC.

Influence isn’t the same as experience. Influence is fine for a position coach. He has done nothing to make me think that he can call an elite offense in the SEC. And again, if Underwood committed to Michigan, the majority of you would laugh this suggestion off the board.

hoping he turns into joe brady is comical.

Is it possible he has improved? Looks like statistically La Tech improved year over year when he was full time OC.
