Would Frank Wilson, Brad Davis, Blake Baker, or Corey Raymond be on staff if Woodward wasn't the AD? He was very involved in the Frank Wilson hire when BK got here, and obviously had a history with the others before BK. And now Austin Thomas, whatever he's doing. I love this staff, but it seems like our AD has more fingerprints on it than the average program. Not good or bad necessarily, but something I've noticed. Alignment, I guess.

OC/Quarterbacks - Joe Sloan
Co-OC/WR - Cortez Hankton
Running Backs - Frank Wilson
Offensive Line - Brad Davis
TE's/Special Teams - Slade Nagle

DC/LB - Blake Baker
Defensive Line - Bo Davis
Edge Rushers - Kevin Peoples
Secondary - Corey Raymond
Safeties - Jake Olsen

Brian Kelly isn't a baby back. He has a backbone. He's hiring who he wants.

Is this another Google Maps glitch because this thread is definitely heading towards a dead end!

You don’t pay a coach 10 million a year to make him a puppet

And Woodward gave him a 3 year counts made him interim coach when O was fired. You don't think Woodward encouraged BK to keep him on?

I think you’re missing OP’s point. If aleva was here he would say nope here’s $3 million a year spread it evenly and make it happen or it’s on you babe.

Kelly is the lead singer. Other than that we are putting the old band back together.

All the guys your talking about have a connection to Louisiana, which has been a focus of BK since day 1

You’re tying to Woodward for some reason when the obvious answer is staring at you in the face

Wilson- from LA
Davis- from LA
Baker- wife is from LA and loves BR
Raymond- from LA
Hankton- from LA
Nagle- from LA
Olsen- started his career and worked his way up in lower tier LA schools
Sloan- worked his way up at a lower tier LA school

All these guys had experience or ties to recruiting in the state of Louisiana and success elsewhere that made them an excellent candidate for the job. Simple as that.

Probably not

BK said he didn’t even decide on retaining Davis until after he saw him running the team as interim coach

I'm not saying otherwise. It's just interesting that multiple coaches have a prior history of working with Woodward, but not a prior history with Brian Kelly. Probably just a side effect of focusing on coaches up with Louisiana ties, but it's interesting. I'm not gonna look at the staffs at Alabama or Ole Miss, but I doubt you'll see the same pattern.

It's also a credit to Woodward that he maintains good relationships with all these former coaches (and pays top dollar), I doubt very many coaches would've come back to work for Alleva a second time.

Probably a bit of just luck as well in that NDs Oline coach Jeff Quinn did not follow him as he may have expected to happen. I remember wanting him bad thinking he was the secret sauce to NDs OLine development, apparently it’s more related to BKs committment to that part of the field when recruiting and developing.

Stumbling into one of the best Oline coaches in America is a stroke of luck you need to win at this level sometimes

Agree, the focus on coaches with Louisiana ties probably explains it.

It's also interesting that BK insisted on a clause in his contract that he can leave for another job without paying a buyout if Woodward quits. Seems coaches like working for him, that can't be a bad thing.

Well probably all of them when you consider that Kelly has never had any success as a head coach until he got to LSU

Lucky for us he inherited Jayden Daniels

Had we just brought back one of the guys CBK ran off, then I’d say probably mostly CBK.

The fact that we’re adding a lot of guys that he ran off tells me that there is outside influence at a minimum.

BK is as experienced as it comes in the coaching profession. Woodward isn’t pulling strings. If anything, Woodward may have initially been a sounding board for BK as he sought coaches with Louisiana ties for recruiting purposes.

It’s also pretty well known in coaching circles who the top tier position coaches are. Sloan, Frank, Bo Davis, Raymond, and Olsen all had strong Louisiana ties before coming to LSU and are all considered top tier coaches at their respective positions.

Everyone on this staff is an elite level coach AND recruiter. That shite is absolutely nuts.
