Michigan Fans,

Let's assume Harbaugh takes the job. Do you envision him being a lifer? I can't help but think that even if he takes this job, he will want to get back to the NFL at some point. With his competitive drive, I think there will always be unfinished business, especially getting to the Super Bowl and not only losing, but losing to his brother. Thoughts?

2 to 3 years, the guy was too successful at the NFL level.

I'd say either 5 or 15.

If this was the case, he wouldnt leave the NFL.

The guy clearly likes coaching in college more than the NFL. Im not sure why a majority of you cant grasp that.

I believe part of the family stuff that his wife wanted ironed out was him being there for the long haul. They have grade school children and she does not mind moving but doesn't want to move again. I would guess he will be there for the remainder of his career.

You don't think deep down he feels he has unfinished NFL business?

I said this in another thread, but being an alumnus likely keeps him there five or so years. But unlike Saban, who is the inevitable comparison, he's still young and has more than a decade of coaching left. I could see a return to the NFL given the right circumstances and being able to leave Michigan in great shape.

He might. Which is why I answered 5-15. He isnt going to leave Michigan before he either wins or fails. 2-3 years wont be enough time for either.

If he comes to Michigan, he will retire in Michigan.

But this is not like the coaching search. You need 15, 20 years to prove Michigan's fans are correct. So no more arguments from me about this topic. who knows 20 years later if this board still exist or not.

Believe it or not, JH father is the force behind his decision to go back to Michigan. Told him if you accept it, you need to stay there until you are done.
I think his dad believes he is better wired as a college ball coach than a NFL guy.

I know his father is one of the driving forces behind him taking the job. I know his wife does not want to move multiple times with school age children. Take that for what you will.

Translation: not really where Jim wants to be.

If he takes the job, he will be gone within 5 years.

If my dad has to talk me into doing something, odds are it's not what I really want to do

I dont think any 50 year old makes a decision solely on what there father wants them to do. If he didnt want to go, he wouldnt. Its not like his father is going to disown him.
