How could the Chip Kelly hire realistically happen?

I'm assuming we would have to wait for the end of the NFL season, meanwhile LSU would be conducting a "coaching search" but technically already have him locked up?

The last week of the NFL season is January 3rd.

Would he step down as soon as the position came open?

If we ended up getting Kelly how would it go down?

I think we could get a commitment out of kelly within two weeks prior to the regular season ending so dec 18 timeframe. Otherwise we could see miles coach the boel and then fire him and bring in kelly.

That is all speculation, i dont know how teams have done it in the past

They're a game out of first place in the division.

We have to hope they get wrecked on Thursday.

And be hired less than a week later by another NFL team.

To answer the OP: LSU offers him something like 12 mill/year

I'm going with November 27. I think they stink it up in Detroit to the 3-7 Lions tomorrow. So either tomorrow evening or Friday he should be done.

I can't see the Eagles firing him so soon when they are a game out of first in the division.

Already have been rumors Titans were willing to give Philly draft choices to hire him. They want to reunite him with Mariota.

This would have to happen for us to have a chance to get him IMO.

I can't see us waiting until end of December.

There's any number of scenarios that could play out.

Unless Philadelphia starts winning, which seems unlikely, Kelly could be out before the season ends. He could resign. He could get fired.

I suspect Chip Kelly has another 30-60 days to get out of the contract he signed for the house he just purchased in South Jersey. The sudden scramble to get rid of Miles makes me think it's Kelly, as a result.

Just heard in one of those drive by reports on 104.5 that he has lost his team and guys are tuning him out. Unless he goes to coach the Titans, chances are he'll be back in the NCAA, whether it's LSU or another school.

Well it would wreck our recruiting for sure. Didn't Bobby Petrino leave Atlanta for Arkansas during the season?

Yes, but Chip Kelly wouldn't go out in a similar manner. Petrino got murdered for that, and I don't believe for a second that the media reaction to his departure from Atlanta didn't hurt his recruiting.

Chip Kelly would likely resign, but he'd likely talk to the team first. He'd go out like a man, looking the players in that locker room in the eye and accounting for his decision.

That's my opinion.

But, the problem is he would wait until the end of the year, especially if there is any hope of playoffs. This is why the Harbaugh thing was so difficult last year. Michigan may have thought they had things locked up behind the scenes, but even with that SF trainwreck, Harbaugh had to say he wanted to be there and you never knew if Oakland or Jerrah or somebody was going to come in with $10 million and franchise control. Guys like Schefter were saying until the very end that he wasn't going to college. The only way that Chip ends up in college is if he gets fired in the next couple of weeks IMO, although USC might have the patience to wait.
