Didn't realize it, but appears he resigned from Belhaven the end of November to try to get back in as an OC somewhere per the statement. Mumme at Belhaven, DuBose went to Milsaps...Butch or Bert to Belhaven?

quote:

"I'm stepping down as head football coach at Belhaven to pursue jobs at a higher level," said Mumme. "At this point in my career I would like to just coach AirRaid offense. Building a stadium and administering a program has been fun at BU but my heart is elsewhere now. In fairness to all involved, I think it best to announce my intentions.

Mike Dubose would make some team a damn good D-Line coach. I'm serious, than man was an outstanding coach of defensive linemen. I also spent 9 days around Coach Dubose and Ellis Johnson at Coach Stallings' summer football camp in the summer of 92. I was very impressed with Mike Dubose. Some power 5 program should consider him for a D-Line coaching job.

I thought the sequence of events was more like get offered first, then leave your job. Sounds fishy.

Why do I never see Mike Shula’s name listed as a candidate either in college or the NFL? He’s been a very good OC for years in the NFL and wasn’t horrible at Alabama. If he wouldn’t have come in second for Tebow, he might still be in Tuscaloosa.

You're right about Shula. He was saddled with 20 something scholarship losses. 2003 was terrible but he came in in like May of that year with no spring. Those other years he did about as good as u could do under the sanctions.

We hired him because literally no one wanted that job at the time but a lot of folks I talk to, We all agree he wasn't too bad. Think he's more comfortable in the NFL. He will be a head coach there one day.

Props to Mumme for being honest as hell. Most coaches sugarcoat everything and dance around the real issue. He came out and said exactly what he wants to do. Best of luck to him.
