Whatever...pre-Saban LSU had 8 losing seasons in the 90s and was looking up to Mississippi State from the cellar.

NO....

The point of all this is that you guys are not at all assured of being great just because you are Bama. You are great right now because Saban has done a tremendous job for you. If something with his job status over there changes, you might be fortunate enough to land another great coach but it will not be automatic for you to continue to have a great football program.

I've never argued that Alabama will just be Alabama. That would be a dumb statement. A program, even with inherent advantages, is only as good as the head coach. However, Alabama has had more than its fair share of great ones. I feel confident the right one can be found when Nick Saban retires/leaves.

You have been extremely lucky. Counting on that luck to continue just because is silly.

The same "luck" that has brought great coaches to Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Southern California, etc.? It is the "inherent advantages" those programs have that attracts great coaches. As well as a legacy that can be built. Obviously it is not a God-given right, as these things go in cycles, but the up-cycle is usually pretty nice at those historical programs.

So having Bryant just so happen to be an alum (was neither born nor raised in the state) and Saban fall into your lap isn't luck? Really?

Pretty much. Right place, right time.

Obviously a place like bama will be better than like UAB no matter what, and Saban wouldn't have left the Dolphins for say Kent State, but there are probably 15 programs or so that all have about equal resources and ability to win if the right things happen. Alabama has been extremely lucky in the very risky world of coaching changes

If those programs, Alabama included, have done this several times in over 100 years of fielding a football program and it is luck, what do you call LSU's two (maybe three) periods of sustained success?
