With all the speculation going around about who it’s going to be, I have to wonder if any of you really think Woody would allow himself to be put in such a weak negotiating position by trying to hire someone when he didn’t already have a guaranteed fallback with O?

Negotiation 101 dictates that you always negotiate from a position of Strenth. Like buying a car. If the salesman knows you got nothing, they’re less likely to give much off the sticker. Why would they?

I always believed that Woody was a guy that had his ducks in a row. I figured that if he fired O, it was because he knew that he could get the coach he wanted. He wouldn’t allow himself to be put in a weak negotiating position by trying to hire someone when didn’t even have an option to keep what he had. No good AD would do that.

So I firmly believe that woody has known who he was going to hire as far back as September and maybe earlier. If he didn’t then shame on him and we really need to consider whether Woody is the right guy. I don’t think he’s so dumb though. He’s had the replacement for a while now

He had no choice, O was not gong to be around after this year, nor should he have been.

But Scott didn't have "nothing." He's selling a job opening to lead LSU football. That's pretty damn appetizing to any coach in America.

Have you not seen the disaster that is Orgeron? Even if Scott wanted to wait until the end of the year, he had no choice but to axe O. Something had to be done.

Woody didn't fire O because he had someone else.

He's hiring someone else because he fired O.

Woody did the right thing. Can't be looking for a coach when you already have one. Please see Joe Alleva

I mean you can’t really do worse than O, so whether he had a deal locked in or not he made the right move.

SW fired O because Tate and Temple told him to. They were fed up with off-field stuff. Didn’t/don’t care about replacement. It’s all about campus power politics.

Now SW is scrambling to CYA. If he fails, they will be happy to replace SW with their AD. The woke is deep at LSU.

They should've sent Peetz out before O.

Woody did not get the opportunity to fire Orgeron. Orgeron went to him and turned in his notice so he could get a better deal. Apparently, there was some bad blood that started last season with the hire of Pelini....neither he or Orgeron wanted Pelini there and it just carried over.

I do know the particulars in that, and let's just say Pelini should have gotten $ 0 after what he pulled.

This is an opinion board as well as a rumor mill. There is always a little fact in opinion.

I’m pretty sure they’ll both be leaving together

Neither Pelini or Orgeron wanted Pelini in BR as DC. Orgeron was sort of forced to hire Pelini and Pelini got here and started acting as though he did not need to talk to his boss because Orgeron did not really hire him. It was mostly Woodward and Orgeron went along with it but did not like Pelini. Pelini felt as though he did not need to show up for work in the off season.

I like that he fired him when he did. Having O not fired yet would not all of the sudden give LSU a position of strength. Even if O had not yet been fired, everyone would know right now that O would not be the coach next year.

However, what it did do is two things: (1) it allowed Woodward to openly discuss the opening with potentially interested parties; and (2) it stopped a situation where O could go on a run of 3 wins and win his job back (i.e. Les Miles the first go around). For reason 2 alone, I was happy to hear of the firing.

He had no choice.

But after the Kentucky game, he knew that Mark Stoops would gladly take the LSU job if offered.
