Whatever happened between LSU and Riley wasn’t a complete fabrication. Influential boosters and others around the university expected him to be the program’s next leader. After all, how could he turn down a chance to be college football's highest-paid coach?

I agree with him. Something did happen, but ultimately Woodward and LSU failed.

LSU is great at fumbling at the one yard line when it comes to coaches. Doesn’t matter who the AD is

Riley sounds like a big flirt.

He has flirted with the eagles amd cowboys over the last couple coaching cycles.

He def flirted with lsu. Guy just sounds like a bitch.

What the frick is it with this program? How many times have we "thought we had our guy" only to be left at the altar. Jimbo, Herman, Freeman, Riley. The fricking decision makers and boosters get played and used as leverage like nothing I've ever seen before.

They deserve Mark Stoops

This state and its flagship university is run by idiots. LSU’s top people are big headed morons that think Louisiana politics flies elsewhere in the country.

Doesn't even sound like it went to the one yard line.

Sounds like the lsu sources over played their hands big time.

I was holding out hope but think he is just a flirt. He likes being wanted.

If you offer him all the money and all the resources and he declines, it is what it is. I don’t consider that a failure

To be fair, nowhere does that say Woodward or athletic dept officials expected Riley to say yes. Basically it’s saying that the boards insiders weren’t lying, there was smoke from their sources, i.e. boosters and others tangentially connected to the team.

But Delly is tight with the actual athletic dept, and to me that article reads like from his sources (Woodward and verge) it was never really that close.

If you allow him to extend the negotiations, use you for leverage, and cause you to divert energy from more realistic candidates, that is a failure.

It's not a failure that he declined after offering him everything It's a failure they let the cat out the bag and started bragging.

Makes them look like idiots.
