Just floating this. I'd like to hear your reasoning if it's not doable or a bad idea.

We hire David Cutcliffe as HC, Peyton Manning as OC and HC-in-waiting. Keep the rest of the staff, and throw enough money at everyone to make it happen.

Coach Cutt has been pretty successful everywhere he's been, despite not being a great recruiter. LSU will always recruit itself to a degree, as long as we don't actively screw up relationships and drive them away. Plus....like I said, keep the rest of the staff (who are obviously awesome at it). He's been successful in the SEC, specifically. He beat Notre Dame the other day, with frickin' Duke. He's unmatched at developing QBs (we got rid of Miles for a reason), and can obviously run a program at a macro level as well.

Manning knows the game as well as anyone alive, and is probably missing being part of it. He'd get his foot in the door at a relatively high level, while still not having all the admin and headaches of being a head coach just yet. He's basically been an on-field OC for 10+ years already, and knows how to relate to recruits and young players from his experience in their camps. He and his family are familiar with the area and have ties here.

They obviously know and like each other, and have already worked together. Unity of effort is big, as the Miles/(insert OC here) examples have shown.

So we bring them in, keep the rest of the staff, win a NC next year or in 2018 or both with the current talent, Coach Cutt rides off into the sunset (he's kinda old) and hands off the reins. Saban retires at about the same time, and we wreck the SEC for the next 15-20 years on the backs of Manning and all the great QBs he'll recruit and develop with their rocket-laser arms!

What have I missed? Pipe dream, I know...but can't hurt to ask, and I think it's solid.

I thought of "why not cutcliffe earlier today for a big time, specifically lsu job. He's an elite offensive mind and coach and his connection with the Mannings is second to none. I think he'd actually be an incredible hire for LSU.

Exactly. He's never had the reins of a program with these resources. Anyone who has would have no reason to leave their current gig. The only real concern is his age, but Manning addresses that.

Jesus Christ.

Manning is going to get some sweet gig on tv. Has he even showed an interest in coaching?

Just because you are an elite player does not make you an elite coach.

Of course it doesn't make you an elite coach.

We're not talking about Warren Sapp here.

He's already been coaching a long time. Manning Passing Academy.

And that's why he's just running the offense at first.

Here's a thought. Hire them both, they string together a few 8-4 years, then people start screaming for them to get fired.

Imagine firing Peyton Manning.

Yes, the Manning thing is idiotic, but Cutcliffe is not.

Manning is going to be on CBS or part owner of a team or something else WAY more prestigious than coaching.

Manning will not be at LSU. He will be in a broadcast booth and continue building his brand and pitching products

I don't hate him, but doesn't he have health problems?
