LSU assistant Ed Orgeron talking to USC

quote:

LSU defensive line coach Ed Orgeron has spoken to USC about an assistant coaching position, FootballScoop.com is reporting.

Orgeron, a Louisiana native, spoke to new USC coach Clay Helton, according to a source, and the two have a deep respect for one another. Orgeron was previously an assistant coach and interim head coach at USC.

LSU hired Orgeron in January. Helton is said to be making several staff changes after being hired to replace Steve Sarkasian.

they fricked him so bad when he left last time, I would think he says no.

Why we would take an assistant job at a school who just hired an interim coach with the same record he had as interim when they passed him over?

They are fricking dumb for offering. He should tell them all to go frick themselves.

Yeah he's not going to USC, he just wants a raise, which he deserves

I think O will listen to what they have to say but, there's definitely a hill to climb getting past the aftertaste of how he felt disrespected last time. I expect LSU to offer him a (deserving) raise so, who knows. Given the circumstances, he knows he has a path to the LSU HC position in time & when he got the call from Miles he did comment it was his "dream job" . I don't see him leaving for a lateral position anywhere but for a significant promotion, who knows? IMHO there, it might come down to how close LSU is willing to pay to keep him.

USC's defensive coordinator position will likely open up at year end (Wilcox is terrible), O and Helton are apparently good buddies and people are blowing his bitterness towards USC out of proportion: He's over it

Will he leave, I doubt it. But it's not like its something that is out of the realm of possibility.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him go. O is a mercenary. LSU needs to up his pay though. He is making peanuts considering what he's worth.

He is certainly overqualified to be coaching defensive line.

Has he ever called a defensive game? He's a tactician, motivator and great recruiter. IMO he would need to either a) go be a DC at a smaller school or b) be a pseudo-DC under a defensive head coach before he could get a major school DC job.
