Best available staff or does the new DC bring his guys?

The wholesale dismissal of the defensive staff says to me that there is a DC already lined up and he wants to bring his guys with him. Am I reading this incorrectly? Or would a high level DC say, "I want to hand pick my guys, regardless of whether they work for me now."

Let's say it is Blake Baker. Are there weaknesses on that staff? Are there guys that are all "Missouri is my dream school" and will never leave?

Can't say I follow coaches other than HCs and coordinators.

I disagree. I think BK will be 100% in charge of his staff.

I dont think the new DC will get cart blanche on his own assistants but would ideally have great input. Steeples, Cooks, and House had to go. The secondary was terrible and House lost the locker room. Lindsey was probably just an unfortunate thing due to health issues and timing.

Very rarely does a guy poach his entire staff when they take a new job. Take his top guy? Sure. But not everyone.

I'd imagine there are some position coaches that are a take no matter who the DC is but we aren't gonna promote some GA and tell a new DC to deal with it.

I think Corey Raymond is a lock and Bo Davis is likely. Besides that I have no clue

It depends. If I Big Fish is landed, Kelly may allow him to bring a couple of his guys

It’s got to be collaborative.

You don’t want to tell your new DC he has to be successful with your guys.

I know it won’t happen but I’d love to see Greg Williams have our D start killing QBs.

That will depend on whether it is an established DC with experience hiring or a position coach promotion from another successful organization.

My thinking is he wouldn’t want to own the hiring. He owned this staff to some degree (excepting Lindsey) and with some bad luck had a sticky spot (getting rid of Lindsey who hadn’t offered to step aside) to get out of. He took that potentially divisive law suit off the table. BAM!

Hanny had the best take on who is available and who has roots in our area to recruit. Some Texas Aggie staff members and the NFL Rams DC among others.

He was just throwing random names out and he DIDN'T mention the Rams Dc, he mentioned Eric Henderson, the Rams DL coach

After Nicks first season at LSU, he lost a few coaches. 4 if I’m not mistaken. On the Offensive side Jimbo had input.

On the other side, Nick got a little input. Nick did lose a DC quickly one year, the guy lasted about a month. He then moved a guy up to the position, but everyone knew, it was Nicks defense.

Kelly has done this before, he’s known who he’s got and who he’s going after.
Has to be a good fit. Kelly is involved with the offense side, in a big way. But has been a DC and DB coach also a Recruiting Coordinator before getting a Head Coaching job. So he knows what he wants on that side of the ball also.

I just want an old fashioned LSU defense, players running to the ball, sure tackling, linemen who can push the offense back and rush the passer, linebackers filling the gaps and defensive backs who don’t look like they are lost out there.
