Any chance Orgeron sticks around if he doesn't get the promotion?

Assuming they go in another direction and the new HC wants to keep him, is there any chance he would want to/could stay? Would suck to lose him.

Hopefully, he's a great DL coach and recruiter.

I can't see it. This is his program now and he's running it as such. I don't think he'll be interested in taking a back seat as a subordinate to an outsider.

To me it depends on how he does. If he finishes with 2 losses or so and get passed over he may get pissed and leave.

I feel like if he is not the head coach they would offer him something to stick. Recruiting coordinator / assistant head coach type of deal. Would also be the highest paid d line coach in the country.

I think as long as he's given a fair shake. Other than that, unless he gets another power 5 job, I see him swallowing his pride because he and his family love being home from all accounts.

I don't see why not if we treat him with more respect than USC did

(and that's not hard)

It'll ultimately be up to the new HC and to any other school that might try to hire O away

If he goes something like 6-2 again as interim, he wont get the job here, but I could see him getting a HC job somewhere based on his past two results as an interim coach, (12-4 record)

We all know that despite Coach O's self professed love for LSU, it isn't a big as his love and desire to be a head coach

This was my biggest concern when they let miles go this early. Coach O is high energy and seems to be a perfect fit when it comes to being an interim coach. We just don't know if that style fits long term. If they don't keep him, he probably leaves. I just hope he doesn't find himself with his buddy kiffin in bama.

Tru dat. But while I don't know much about his family life, I'm curious if he would want to be close to home. Would he rather take the HC job at a program like Kentucky or relinquish his HC slot at LSU to be a highly paid assistant close to home?

I think that depending who the new coach is and if they are interested in retaining him, he has set himself(CEO) up nicely. Remember, he has brought in his mentor, Coach Jenkins, to fill his spot on the staff. I would assume Coach Jenkins is looking forward to going back to semi-retirement. He is doing this for his young protégé and the university.
Coach O can slid right back to D-line if they want to retain him.

Probably this.

I respect Orgeron a lot but getting a job like a LSU, UGA, etc isn't a given. I think people still significantly judge him for his stint at Ole Miss - the rest of this season is his chance to change that.

He wanted the Syracuse job last year. He wants to be a HC above all else

He should get a head coaching job because, at this point, I'm not sure if anyone else is going to feel safe having him on their staff.

I'm mostly kidding.

he was ticked at USC and did not stay with the new coach. So I assume he will have folks calling his agent.

Considering the fact that it look more and more like Alleva and O had talks behind Mile's back about this scenario to be prepared, the next coach would likely be a fool to keep and trust him on the staff.

Not saying I am mad or disagree with O, but it definitely seems he and Alleva had some talks about being prepared to be the interim coach.

Which is why the next coach would be foolish to retain him. Power struggles, comparisons, etc. No thanks.

I see this as O's last 8 games on LSU sideline. He isn't going to run the table. He won't be the next HC. I doubt he really accepts his old DL position coaching job under the new HC. I expect the new HC to want his guys.
