Some have referred to the UM situation as a "dumpster fire". I think they have positioned themselves perfectly. They targeted JH from the get go and if reports are correct have made an offer. Really playing in the big leagues if numbers are accurate. If JH says no, UM fans cannot fault the admins based on the carrot reportedly being dangled. Reports have mentioned Miles is #2 target. Some in admin are still leery of Miles from history. Most think there was contact with Miles agent and probably kept abreast of the situation with JH. Miles goes "off record" to say "I am not considering the UM job, have not been contacted, and have no intention of leaving LSU". Should JH fall through, All eyes will be on other plan B candidates since Miles made the off record comments above. If indeed he is #2 on the list, and he really wants the UM job as many believe, then the perfect smoke screen exists for those negotiations to happen (6-6.5 mill range and similar asst coach pool) while all eyes are on the other plan B guys. By Miles making those comments, then taking the job, UM admins can sell his "UM loyalty and love to come back home even after saying not interested" to the remaining Miles detractors at UM and allow old wounds to heal. LSU can say his loyalty for UM was strong and he felt obligated to return as they were in dire straits with JH off the board. If he stays even after UM offer, LSU camp trumpet his LSU Loyalty and UM can say we went down swinging in full and move on leaving alums happy all that could be done was done to secure #1 and 2. Still a win win for everyone. That is what makes Miles comments so smart. It allows ALL PLAYERS to save face regardless of what happens!! Very smart move indeed. So hats off to UM, well played!! Either get JH or Miles or if neither fans are satisfied with the process.

Just messing with you.

I completely agree with the assessment. Michigan is doing everything right, and my source has been saying that for the entire search.

Probably not. But an offer in the 6-7 mill range may make him ponder the thought. If they have always wanted him as some on here believe, then get his attention and make LSU pony up from 4.3 to keep him.

Downvote this post all you want, but Les Miles is worth every penny of a 7 million dollar offer.

Every Penny.

Neither Miles or Harbaugh will end up at Michigan.

Why in the world would miles accept being second choice to a job that's been open 3 times and is still not there . And stated he is not interested . He plays in the best division of the best conference in college football . What would going to Michigan under the cloak of second choice be a good move for him?

He may well be. Not sure the LSU admin would pony up to that level to keep him. Maybe maybe not. What are your sources saying about the "fence mending" with Miles?

Did he say "I am not interested"? He may have but i think that is what everyones interpretation is. May be an accurate interpretation. I thought he said "been no contact, no consideration, and no intention to leave"? If JH was offered today, and he was #1 candidate as all have said, then rest assured no other offers were made.

There standard for earning $7M is in Tuscaloosa and Miles is not in his league.

But I'll donate to UM booster club to help make it happen if UM wants to bail us out of this mess.

If Miles were to actually leave for UM after the bowl game I'd think we'd be in a bad spot to find the coach we'd prefer.

He is more in that league than Harbaugh, 1 NC to 0. Is he worth 7 mill, some would say yes and some no. For UM, add the on field success and other issues (back home, love for UM, Loyalty, stealing SEC West coach) 7 mill may seem like a good deal.

This may be the case for Michigan, but not at LSU.

I don't think Saban is worth 7M at LSU tomorrow, tbh. These salaries are getting absurd.

According to "them" he is not interested. He said i have no intention of leaving LSU. Did not say I have no interest even if contact is made and an offer extended. Thats why he didnt want to talk anymore about it cause these would have been follow up questions. I think he will still be at LSU next year. But to think he has no interest in UM regardless of the contract offered???

LSU takes advantage of SEC coaching changes on the recruiting trail
LINK

This recruiting cycle the Tigers' coaching staff have made moves on players who were committed to other programs, but lost a key coach on the staff in regards to who recruited some of these prospects.

---------------------------------------------

i miles leaves, lsu will be in the toilet finding another GOOD coach, and will loose recruiting wars for the next two years. lsu committments will be eaten up by the rest of the sec.
