When asked about why he decided to fire Defensive Coordinator- Dave Womack, Johnson said, "We hadn't forced a punt in 3 games and we gave up 28 plus points in 5 out of last 6 games. In my eyes ,that is unacceptable." I like the fact that he wouldn't attach his legacy to an underachieing defense. He knew he had to make a change and acted immediately.

he'll probably be tuberville part 2: never take the blame and fire assistant after assistant to save his own arse.

i have a theory and ive said it time and again: paul johnson's option attack will win a ton of games, but will NEVER get them over the hump and win any real(see: NC) hardware. he will beat the bad and average teams every year, and 1/2 of the good ones they play. but the great teams with great Ds will shut them down, and bowl teams with 4 weeks to prepare can stop their attack.

in short, hes always going to win games, but will never win the big one. thats better than chan gaileys arse, but knowing my team has ZERO chance to win it all before the season starts? better start lowering expectations in cold-lanta

Like Les he is allowing Womack to save face...word is on the Internet that the dude actually got caught drilling a peep hole into the locker room of the girls' tennis team.

Which is probably good enough for Georgia Tech. The ACC is so bad, they could win more conference championships. It all depends on what Shannon and Jimbo can do.

And given some of the Orange Bowls in recent years, he could get a favorable matchup or two from the Big East.

Our expectations over here are so warped since Miles got here that candidness about performance looks Greek to me.

meh it's worked whenever he plays teams with comparable talent. He dominated the other service academies when at Navy, and he won a few national championships in 1AA.

I think once GT gets good talent in there they'll be a very good team.

To dismiss them based on strategy seems very close minded. People said Urban Meyer's spread wouldn't work in the SEC.

I'm not gonna go nearly as far as that it will win a national championship, but i might.

1) No, but when you talk about someone's "accountability" it's kind of humorous to ignore that he's a huge a-hole.
2) He's taken Georgia Tech and the Triple Option as far as it will go in the modern game. It's great for week-to-week exposing people but any time anyone has time to prepare it's game over for them...

The problem with Tech will be getting the players to play in the offense. The base of the offense is 1 back and 2 slot backs, which would be slot receivers in a passing offense. You can play two TE on the offense or split receivers out and have a 4 receiver set. Basically, nothing different than spread offenses except his QB goes under center. His QB's at Ga Southern, Navy, and two years at Tech were limited in passing skills. I wonder what he could be able to do with a QB that could pass effectively and expand his offense. It is hard to judge what he has the ability to do until that QB gets in the system.

instead he's apparently attaching his legacy at GT with his offense getting stoned in their last two bowl appearance.

I'm surprised he was able to get Al Groh. Groh's got a great resume. Any school would love to have him as their defensive coordinator. It's pretty bad when GT can get better assistants than UGA. Richt's been turned down by four or five people now.

So how did triple option teams like Bama, Neb, OU etc win NCs in the past?...against some great defenses? Ya..you need great O-lineman...and that's where Georgia Tech is at a disadvantage. But if they could put a stellar class of O-lineman together one of these years....look out...no reason they cant win some hardware.

What they most needed what to complete a couple of simple passes and make the defense back off

It is true it's easier to defend when you've had time to prepare for it... but the biggest problem was they couldn't even do the minimum in a passing sense to keep the opposition honest
