So the Kirby smokescreen was to distract Saban while Les snuck in and stole the real prize?

Any coach who under estimates Les Miles, will lose to Les Miles as will certain B.R. area sports radio guys.

Steele, 56, was recommended to Miles by LSU defensive line coach Brick Haley, who worked as defensive coordinator under Steele at Baylor from 1999-01. The hire also had a thumbs up from secondary coach Corey Raymond.

Les Miles "Steeles" the best D.C. from Saban. The decline was grossly exaggerated.

This hire has Gary Crowton written all over it - hope I'm wrong

Im not crazy about this hire either, however, you do realize that the offense was great under crowton in his first year and it led to the 2007 National Championship right?

This has to be a troll post. OP cannot be naive enough to not know bios posted by schools are always overly positive without negatives or believe that Steele is a better DC than Smart.

Steele is a linebacker coach who has failed at anything more than be a position coach.

This is the equivalent of another SEC team hiring Frank Wilson as their OC
Highly paid position coach who is highly paid because of recruiting

Way to spin it.

quote:

The UA defense performed impressively under Steele in 2007, ranking 27th nationally and fourth in the SEC in scoring defense (22.0 ppg).

Why is this impressive? When has Nick Saban ever been satisfied with a defense that ranked 27th nationally and fourth in the SEC in scoring defense? My guess is that's why he was moved out of the position. So much for the "see what he does with talent" argument. We know what he does with talent. He finishes 27th.
