Sal is owed $1.837 million through Feb 2015 by University of Tennessee. All told he will earn around $750K between FSU and UT each year and if he sticks around will get a new contract in 2015.

He is getting 190k at FSU thanks to UT

People complain about Sunseri all the time, have you ever through that their was no talent on UT's defense? I didn't see a whole lot of kids getting drafted on that defense from last year besides maybe a LB or 2. The guy did great at alabama and I know its different but its unfair cuz that tennessee team had zero talent on defense

Also 7 years coaching in the NFL.

I figure he's worth 200k/yr just for the recruiting.

10 starters returning from No. 27 defense in the nation.

Finished 115th.

Not Sal's fault.

I would double that to assure he never returns. Worst coach/recruiter combo I have ever seen at the University of Tennessee.

It was Tennessee, not Sal. He was tremendous at Alabama. He recruited and developed his OLBs. Courtney Upshaw became a real force under his tutelage. Sal Sunseri also had a great 10 year run as the DL coach with the Carolina Panthers. He's well respected in coaching circles. He never had a chance at Tennessee.

I do not deny that he is a good position coach and recruiter. But if he was such a great cordinator/ready to be a coordinator, there's no way in hell the UT defense should have struggled like they did. They returned virtualy everyone from a top 30 defense from last year despite being on the field the entire game. (remember how pathetic the offense was in '11?) Maybe he would do better as coordinator of a program that already used a 3-4...but it was an epic failure in Knoxville.

The 3-4 defense is not an easy transition. Alabama actually had a better defense, statistically, the final year of the Mike Shula era than it did in Nick Saban's first year at Alabama in 2007.

He was actually a horrible recruiter for UT too.

He wasn't even there for a full cycle. It also matter what you're selling to potential prospects. It is a lot easier to sell a new staff at LSU (in 2000) or a winning program at Alabama (2010-2011), than a coaching staff on the hot seat at Tennessee (2012).

This is true. But Sal was a horrible recruiter because he didn't recruit. He was too busy trying to figure out what the hell was going on with his defense.

The defense got progressively worse as the year went on. Troy put up 720 yards in week 11. Transistion or not, there were no signs of improvement.

He was a huge hire for us at a relatively cheap price. Not to mention he has already worked together with Fisher, Pruitt, and Craig.
