If our new DC is on staff of NFL playoff team, who could it be realistically?

I doubt an NFL DC would switch to a college DC position, especially from a playoff team...stranger things have happened, but maybe a position coach on a playoff team who has prior DC and possibly HC experience in college.
I'm not up on all the coaches, so asking who (if any) would be realistic possibilities?

Zook has already been discussed ad nauseum.

Green Bay Packers Dom Capers
Carolina Panthers Sean McDermott
Seattle Seahawks Dan Quinn
Okay, to play along with this angle...
Who, of those guys would have the most to gain by coming to LSU?
Del Rio jumps off the page in that regard, he played and coached for the Saints, his wife is from LA, and had a daughter go to LSU.
What if...WHAT IF...
Look, pretty much everyone has thought that Del Rio was just waiting for another NFL job to open-up. What if Miles is essentially handpicking his successor here? Miles gauges Del Rio's interest in coaching a major D1 program, instead of grinding in the NFL for another 10 years, and tells him that he only wants to coach another year, two tops, then it's all his.
Del Rio would be 52/53 at that point and, if successful, could have a solid 10-15 year run before hanging it up.
It would be interesting...

Cameron was a successful NFL OC who's team won the super bowl after he was fired but continued to run his offense lol. Stranger things have happened

none

That wouldn't be a "shock the college football world" hire as I have heard it described on here by one of our "insiders."

It was also create hysteria on this board if this were true and Denver kept winning, causing us to have to wait even longer

If the guy is not named on Monday, and Denver is still playing, then you can essentially bank on it.
Unless Green Bay is still playing...

This is how rumors get started rummy...

Yes, but I'm just giving my thoughts on a scenario, and not what I've "heard" from my "sources".

It's Zook IMO But Miles has a contingency plan in place if Packers advance. Assume the Packers & Denver win and so Miles announces a new DC next week then odds are they were not the #1 choice.
Miles taking this through the weekend tells you everything. I wouldn't be surprised if Schiano is not our fall back guy. He could be announced by Tuesday.

There is more stability at the college level for coaches. That being said, college is more of a year long grind. NFL grind is more intense, but you get more time off and you have people that are paid to help keep up with your players. In college, you have to worry about grades, class, recruiting, etc.
Not saying I disagree with you Rummy. Del Rio is the most likely of that list. But the guy has never coached on the college level (minus GA work). We all know the 'he was interested but never got out the car' story from 2005. I would love to be wrong, but I just don't see it.

So he would hire someone else instead of Zook just because he doesn't want to wait a couple extra weeks? Doesn't make sense

It's okay if you disagree...
I'm just throwing a thought out. You bring-up some good points about him.

What about Mike Trgovac? Not a shock the world type hire but was a fellow Michigan grad. Assistant with Cameron at Michigan and has a solid resume. He was a defensive coordinator in Carolina under Dom Capers and currently coaches the D Line for the packers.

Dead period ends on January 15th
Signing Day is Early Febuary
Zook could still be coaching in Febuary
How's that for logic?

Nah, I meant that I agree with you on Del Rio of any on that list. I just don't think it will be any of those.

Interesting. Don't know anything about him, but interesting connections...

We all know Del Rio and Zook have been discussed in great detail, and Del Rio has been coming to LSU for a decade...lol... so interested in some of these other coaches that aren't household names.
