What quality DC will take the position knowing this upfront?

Where was this reported?
He was quoted as saying he was looking forward to coaching alongside a great offense. Other than LSU fans that want this to be the case, this isn't official.

he didn't

Chavis did make a statement, being tongue in cheek, that he was pleased to be on a team with a quality offense. I'm not sure there was an official statement he made that threw Les under the bus...as I'm sure you would track Chavis down and tell him that he's wrong and spout out all of Les' statistics.

No one has ever talked up their new team that they were just hired to be a part of?
What was tongue in cheek about what he said?
Quotes like his are routine

Why did he leave?
LSU wouldn't overpay him.

This is based on that BS nola.com article (which I refuse to link because they don't deserve another hit). Supposedly their source was someone in the athletic dept, but it was garbage. Not much better than people making stuff up here, except they get paid to do it.

Why did he leave?
He wanted a 4 year guaranteed contract, LSU offered a 3 year contract contingent on Miles being HC.
So he bolted for more money and to stick it to LSU (Alleva).

the excerpt from the article specifically said....
Chavis said upon arrival in College Station, "I'm excited to play with a great offense."
Guy coulda said 10,000 other things. He could have said, I'm excited to coach for a team with such great tradition, I want to be a part of the 12th man, I am excited to be a part of building A&M from the ground up....
but all he had to talk about was the "great offense"....

it's A&M...did you want him to mention they're great defense?

This is the report. I'm taking it that he was burned out on keeping us in games until the "D" wore down.
The 4th quarter meltdowns are his deal for sure, I'm not taking up for him.

I like Chavis - he seems to have a good story, has an excellent defensive mind, and all that, but we need to pump the brakes on this crap.
The offense was TERRIBLE, overall in 2014 - I'm not going to sit here and deny that. The running game was inconsistent (even with flashes of brilliance from LF), and the injury bug hit our RB corps hard - worse than I can recall. The passing game - it's been discussed to death - probably the worst producing passing offense at LSU in the modern era.
BUT, lets talk about the other side of that. LSU gave up over 1100 yards of offense in the first 2 league games - 1100 freaking yards. TOP was virtually split against MSU - and was very even through 3 quarters against Auburn - and ended 27 1/2 to 32 1/2 - skewed in Auburn's favor because they shortened the game at the end.
The offense didn't do anything until Harris came in against MSU and nothing of note against Auburn, but it scarcely mattered because Auburn drove the ball at will. The admirable comeback attempt led by Harris was only possible because MSU took their foot off the gas about a quarter too early.
Again - I'm not $hitting on Chavis, because he did something (and I believe it was other than Beckwith or at least, in addition to Beckwith) to turn the defense around for the back half of the season - his defense lost to Bama (again), giving up a big drive at the end of the game (again), but they almost looked as good as 2011 in spots down the back half of the season.
But, I think LSU has given up over 500 yards of offense 3 or 4 times in football history - and 2 of those were in 2014 - Chavis' 6th year as LSU's DC. So, whatever complaints (valid though they may be) that can be pointed at LSU's offense can certainly be sent right back at Chavis' defense, at least for the first half of 2014.
