Mike Smith is unemployed.

Before his run with Atlanta, he was a DC for the Jacksonville Jaguars under Jack Del Rio.

He also happens to live 10 miles from Lawrenceville, where Les Miles' plane was parked for about 3 hours this evening. That plane left Lawrenceville at about the same time that Shoop tweeted that he was staying in State College.

Why else would Miles be in Lawrenceville this evening?

eta: credit to clamdip for being first to pull up mike smith's name. just thought there should be a separate thread for it in case it gets legs

Think of the possibilities with Mike Smith leading our Defense. He did wonders with the Falcons this year.

yes

Mike Smith will coach again (Head Coach) in the NFL.

He's out of our league.

Yea, and the last coordinator we had that was a terrible NFL HC did such a great job for us last season...

clamdip should get credit for thinking of this first, or the blame if its not smith in which case clamdip can go frick himself, because he's certainly qualified

This DC debacle is making us all a bit edgy.

id really like to go outside at some point instead of clicking refresh on the 10 fricking tabs that i have open, but im pretty confident that the next 5 years of LSU football is either gonna go in one direction or the other based on the next 48 hours

Could They be there to see Mike Nolan? He has ties to LSU.

I suppose it's possible... but I couldn't get a bead on where Nolan actually lives

and his name is being floated around a lot in the NFL so I think he ends up staying there.

I hear ya. And this is a particularly crucial time because we have so much freakish talent on the team or incoming this year. Would be really painful to squander guys like LF, Dupre, Toliver, Johnson, Harris, Adams, etc.

Gotta think they went to ATL after visiting Shoop for some reason other than hitting the strip clubs.

1 season, 30 years ago & hasn't coached college since then. I wouldn't exactly call that "ties".

Les's future and legacy at LSU hinges on the hire he makes. He certainly hasn't showed any desire to improve offensively. The defense has carried the team in 5 of the last 6 seasons. With below average defense during that time span, Les has likely been fired already. If the defense drops off the next few season, Les is fricked. I have no faith in his ability (or desire) to improve the offense.
