I have seen this on here a couple times about Gonzales not being able to coach QBs...

Why can't he?

I know he "hasn't done it before" but he has been on the same staff (with Urban) for a while. HE is a WR coach right now...its not like the dude covers his eyes when the QB throws it and only looks at the WR. My bet is that he has plenty of knowledge about it and would do just fine.

Its not like coaches aren't fairly knowledgable about such things. Skill position coaches move around a good bit between things from what i can tell.

I just think it is silly to say he couldn't do this.

if you're looking for improvement in the passing game from a coach, i don't think a coach associated with Tebow is the guy you should look at. UF is a running-option team for the most part. their passing game is rudimentary

also, Tebow never fixed his horrible mechanics while at UF

*ETA: i'm not discussing gonzalez's reputation as a WR coach or recruiter (which i believe is his biggest selling point)

you want to go from a completely shitty QB coach in Crowton to a coach that has no experience coaching QBs, and is completely unproven but is 'fairly knowledgeable' in that area? Inexperince and uncertainty aren't something you usually look for at the most important position on the team

if we want to see improvemet with the qb, we need to hire a qb coach. not a wr coach to coach qb's. i wish les had hired a qb coach years ago.

Books I of course see your point. I would ratehr hire a proven product as well. My point was just that offensive skill coaches can usually coach multiple positions and there is no reason to just assume the BG "can't coach QBs".

...plus you add in the fact that they don't seem to be being coached right now...so it couldn't be worse.

We need a killer QB coach to develop JJ, Garrett, Lee, and Lee (though I think Jarrett is gone). Gonzo is not that guy.
