I’m really enjoying the Dark Winds series on AMC and was wondering if anyone had read his Leaphorn and Chee series and what were your thoughts on it.

Love the show. Am reading the books now. I did not care much for the first book. It did not have quotation marks for statements and that got confusing. I presumed it was because all the characters were speaking Dineh. The second one is better and I am enjoying it more.

A LOT of superstitious overtones, just like the show. Lots of talk and fear of skinwalkers and witches (stories were started in the 70s) and whereas Leaphorn is not as superstitious as most, he does a good job listening and piecing things together mixing fact and superstitious meanings to get where he needs to go. I’m enjoying both the TV show and books.

I am a big detective fiction guy, and I love this series. I haven't started the AMC series because I am convinced I'll be disappointed. I loved the first book especially. I would read them in order but they can be read as stand alone too.

What the. had no idea there was a series.

I'm a Hillerman fan. I love mystery, and he's pretty much the only "modern" mystery writer I can read. Although I haven't read any of his newer stuff. I think I've read 7-8 Leaphorn and Chee books. Pretty much whenever I go in a book store if there's a first edition hardback I'll buy it and that be the one I end up reading. Never read them in chronological order which I'm sure would make them more enjoyable. They are definitely worth reading though.

I read a couple but the plot started getting predictable.

Same as CJ Box, though I liked the CJ box Joe Pickett series much better than Hillerman.

Didn't like the TV series at all.

I haven’t. That’s why I was asking about them.
