Could have posted this on the Movie board, but seems more appropriate here.

Really interesting and entertaining watch; I wouldn't have minded if it were an hour later.

It's part biography, part reflection on his impact. Based on an article by Michael Lewis.

Contains a mix of archival footage, and new commentary by various writers. A highlight was Gay Talese un-ironically criticizing Wolfe's flashy dressing.

Was a bit surprised by Michael Lewis's opening discussion. He mentions discovering Wolfe while growing up in New Orleans, a place - he claims - where no one read books or talks about books. Is there a city in America that celebrates its literary heritage and linked authors more than New Orleans? Maybe things were different in the 60s or 70s when he was growing up, before Anne Rice brought attention back to New Orleans and its book scene; I dunno.

He was a must read author for me for a long time but the shine has been coming off that. A Random Walk Down Wall Street is where it started. All the financial stuff (including Moneyball) through The Big Short is great. Where the wheels have come off is opinion stuff. He pretty clearly told The Blind Side from an Ole Miss homer viewpoint. His true objectivity went out the window. And it's been really bad lately with his increasingly opinionated books. I don't know where the old objective thoughtful Michael Lewis went but the recent Michael Lewis is terribly disappointing.

And it has been a while since I read it (I never watched the silly film), but Sean Tuohy and Michael Lewis were buddies at Newman. That was his whole "in" to the entire story.
