Spoilers

I've read interviews with king about the child gang bang scene where he said he "probably" wouldn't write the scene today. I just really don't get it. It was so out of place and bizarre.

I get they needed to form a strong connection but a 12 year old gang bang in a sewer? Gross.

Hopefully the scene doesn't make it into the new movie.

I've always just thought that scene, and a lot of other stuff he wrote as well, was a result of him being so messed up on drugs and alcohol at the time. He might have been clean by then, I really don't know. He said in his book "on writing" that he basically can't remember writing cujo because he was so messed up, so I'll blame it on that. It is totally weird and I hope it isn't in this new movie either.

Agreed, so strange

I've read a few places that it "connected" the group in a way other things couldn't

There's a few things he wouldn't write today.

He did have it pulled off the shelves and refused to have any further printings.

Personally, I've always thought DiCaprio's dream sequence in "Basketball Diaries" was much more to blame.
If anything can be blamed for a couple of losers' twisted minds.

I thought it was superfluous. Felt slimy even reading it. Wouldn't say it ruined the book, but it detracted from it for sure.

Do you not understand metaphorical growth and transition from childhood?

Little too young for a gang bang

It's supposed to be gross/shocking. Quit being babies. I doubt that scene makes its way into the movie

That's the stated purpose, but it doesn't make sense. With all that the group had been through, I don't buy that they all needed to have sex with Bev to find their way out of the sewers. It's still one of my favorite books, but that scene definitely cheapens it.

Also, coming of age/transition to adulthood my arse. They were 11.

I am in the middle of this scene right now, and it's absolutely disgusting.

Prior to this I believed King is a damn pedophile based on a few other unnecessary sexual descriptions of 11 year olds in this book. Now I am convinced he absolutely is. The dude is disgusting. Not only does he write into his story that 11 year olds have a gang bang, he actually describes it.

frick King. He's a pure blood pederast

ETA: frick this. I couldn't do it. I just skipped it completely. Anyone who thinks this scene is good or necessary is a pedo as well. That's like saying watching child porn is necessary to understand sex and growing up.

It's not the only sex scene he's written involving not just minors, but young minors.

I don't think he's a pedophile, I just think he is always trying to be edgy. And he thinks he's way more clever than he actually is.

A lot of his books have some "wtf" elements that should have probably been cut. None as bad as It but you can tell he becomes enamored with his own writing and refuses to edit it.

King is one of my favorite authors but he's not without his faults.

I know this thread is from a couple of weeks ago but came across this if anyone is interested.

It Director Talks About A Scene From The Book That Won't Be In The Movie

Cliffs: "I think the group scene was a bit of unnecessary broad metaphor of that rite of passage."
