Just coming here to post this, I backed the kick starter for the audio books and the swag boxes.
Will be nice to have four new books to read next year.
And they have already raised over 6 million on his kick starter, that’s impressive

He posted a video yesterday about today's announcement. I thought last night he was going to say he's sick or going to slow down his writing pace.
LOL nope. With the pandemic, he used the time saved from travelling to write 5 additional novels in secret. 3 of them are in the Cosmere on new worlds which is cool.
Rothfuss and GRRM diehards are crying..
Kickstarter is now over 8 million and going.

I backed the kick starter
I had just said Sunday that I wasn’t going to back anything on Kickstarter for a long time.
Needless to say, that vow didn’t last.

With how well the kickstarter is going maybe a shard blade will be in one of the boxes

LOL over $12M now. It's now the 5th largest Kickstarter ever in 12 hours...
UPDATE: $14M and 2nd biggest Kickstarter ever in less than a day and it's all for books; not a toy, gadget, game, but books.. amazing.

He broke the Internet. 5 surprise novels in 2 years. Written in secret known only to his wife. They’re complete.
He’s on another level. In a different dimension.

Wife and I are just about to start Oathbringer...From the Stormlight Archive..
Someone needs to finally get the rights to the Stormlight Archive and make it into a series!!!

Is it better to start Sanderson with the Mistborn or Stormlight series?

I’d say the first Mistborn trilogy, but “Elantris” is the first book set in the Cosmere. Other denizens of his universe appear in Stormlight.

You don't have to, but I would read several of the Cosmere books before starting Stormlight.
Stormlight to me is the best of the bunch (although I probably enjoy Mistborn Era 2 "Wax and Wayne" the most), but several Cosmere characters/things pop up in Stormlight.
You can enjoy Stormlight perfectly fine without any of this knowledge, but have some Cosmere understanding may enhance it.

Particularly “Warbreaker.”

I'd read Warbreaker for sure and Elantris, and Mistborn Era 1. And possibly Mistborn: Secret History after that.
All of those may enhance your reading of Stormlight. Even Mistborn Era 2 (which is awesome) will as well.

I hadn't realized that all of those books were all in the Cosmere universe.

They are. And again you don't NEED to read them before Stormlight, but they will enhance your reading.

Yeah I'm currently working my way through WOT so it will be a while, but I'll bookmark this thread for when its time to read it.

Brandon has anticipated this question and provided a guide.

No right answer really, but I'd suggest starting with Mistborn (era 1), Warbreaker and Elantris before Stormlight. This follows publication order which is a good option as Sanderson is carefully planning which books to release.
This will give you maximum Cosmere background and maybe you'll notice that this character was in that book or this type of magic seems similar etc.
I was completely shocked by the end of the 4th Stormlight book when a connection to one of the other books was revealed.
You'll see in this roadmap there are also short stories (yellow). In general, just follow what it shows. The one exception is Mistborn Secret History. There is alot of debate on when to read this either after Hero of Ages or after Bands of Mourning.
I prefer the latter as that follows publication order. Though I'd also recommend reading Secret History after Rhythm of War if you want to be shocked like I mentioned earlier.

I’d agree with what everyone has said. Mistborn (secret history after era 2 is my vote), elantis, Warbreaker then Stormlight. He also has Arcanum Unbounded which is a collection of Cosmere short stories (there’s short stories for elantris, Mistborn, and Edgedancer that goes between books 2 and 3 of stormlight). It’s kinda like marvel movies where they’re fine stand alone movies but stuff pops up from an iron man in a Captain America movie and in Stormlight it’s more prevalent.

He's insane, and from my understanding he still teaches full hours at his college.
